Not sure it depends on several things is the debt personal or business, is the taxi registered as a business or personal asset one thing I do know is you need a new solicitor and don't pay the one you have!

I would say no since it's a tool of your trade. Unless of course the debt they are collecting is the actual finance that covered the car in the first place.

Yeah, get a new solicitor. The baliff can seize anything he likes. The thing is he can only take what he sees so if some of your more valuable possesions happened to be elsewhere when he called, then he couldn't touch them. If there's a car parked outside it's gone. I'm not sure about a taxi plate but if it can be sold he will take it. That'll be €100 please grin

you need to read the order carefully if you have any funds at all offer to make payments and give something upfront they prefer cash and the promise of more to repossesion, if they do repo you could still end up owing money if what they have doesn't cover the costs and do it fast time is money

The sheriff doesn't 'threaten' to come. He tells you when he's coming and that's the day he must come. If it was my taxi it would be far, far away that day and I wouldn't have anything of value in the house. No T.V., no laptop, no coffe maker, nothing.

No, the sheriff is the last shot the creditors have at getting their money. That's the system. The debt dies with the Sheriffs raid.

Is the taxi in your name? I'd imagine that if it is then they can take it to cover the debt. I'm not sure but your solicitor should be. He should be at least able and willing to check it out for you. I would get a new solicitor ASAP. One that can advise you one way or another for definite.

ok Im not being smart but have you actually gone to see a solicitor??? If anyone should know it should be them am a little surprised they couldnt tell you whats what. Seeking legal advice on a site like this wouldnt be the smartest thing to do. That isnt a slight on anyone trying to help you but let me put it to you this way if you were sick and needed treatment would you seek a cure/medical help here?..

have a look at this site they offer basic free legal advice and if they cant answer your query will point you in the right direction...

best of luck :-)

This bit seems relevant

If you know that the debtor owns something valuable, for example a car, you can tell the Sheriff this and ask him to seize it; you must, however, be absolutely sure that the car belongs to the debtor and not to some other member family member or Limited Company.
