Ryanair can be cheap if you book at the right time, they are ok if you have hand luggage that meets their requirements. The carry on bag has to be under a certain size. Google Ryanair and you can read the reviews and peoples experiences with the airline.

For travelling in Ireland and the UK google AA.routefinder and it will show you the route and the distance and the time a journey will take.thumbs up

I imagine they will have a good bit of luggage with them, coming for a month and coming so far, so the airlines might be expensive when you add on the luggage fees.
Best bet would be to hire a car:
Europcar
Avis
Hertz
then they can pile all the luggage in and go where they like.
Good motorways now here so that is what I would advise.
Hope they have a great time!

Thanks so much everyone for your help. I am UK born, but been a long time here.

Sis and hubby will be staying with friends and family in north England mainly so will only be travelling to Ireland with some luggage (don't think my sis knows the meaning of travelling light sigh )

Kind of forgotten the distances and only ever been to Ireland once when I was about 13yo, remember getting a small mini bus from Dublin think it was to dad's family in Cork.

We have family in Cavan as well and also an aussie friend now working in Belfast who they have to visit. cool

They will most likely hire a car at some point - probably to see the west of Ireland. Only way to do it I guess. I am so jealous.

On my list for my next visit over there - might have to sell the house blues

Off to buy yet another Lottery ticket

Are you walking?laugh

With the new roads you can do Cork in under 3 hours now and Belfast never took 3 hours unless you were cycling.

Still haven't got the car fixed, eh?laugh

My record so far from Dublin to Cork is 1hr 38 mins from the Red Cow roundabout to the Dunkettle roundabout. That was at 03:00 - 04:30hrs, so there wasn't much traffic.

I'll let you know how long my bro-in-law takes to do the drive - he used to be a taxi driver in Sydney and if there is a short way and a long way to get there - he'll do the long way to get the extra fare laugh

Old habits die hard dancing

Think they are in for a good time wherever they go? cheers
