I firstly would like to say i dont hold either opinion on this subjuct...

But... Does the stigma (that its for lonely ppl who are socially awkward) of online dating bug you or do you see it as the new way to find a man/woman?

All answers are good ones :-)

No stigma. Its the way to go but still keep options open for meeting a nice lady in regular social situations though more and more I find the ladies at social gatherings are part of a couple.

I never listen to judgemental people anyway, so does not bother me, I base my opinion on my own experiences.

I was asked recently by a fella, that if I were asked by people where I met him, what would I say.

I stared at him blankly as it had never occurred to me to lie.

I said I had a choice of two answers, both technically true. I could say we met online, or he was the fella on the phone outside the Centra on the Quay.

I think online might sound better than picking up a man on the quay rolling on the floor laughing

I don't think there's too much of a stigma attached to it anymore, and that's regardless of age. Plus there are things like tinder now which hook into you Facebook account.

Any way should you not want to admit to meeting online there is simple if slightly sneaky way to avoid it. Arrange too meet some where and then both of ye bring a small group of friends. Tell your friends nothing about each other. You then make it look like you just met completely by chance and you have a whole bunch of witnesses to confirm your story. The truth will be between you, her and the NSA.

Online dating has had its day,you can't beat the old fashioned way of meeting a woman out in real life and not on a virtual one, cut the crap of wasting your time and meet them in a supermarket or a cafe and you get what you see.

Naturally saving ye candid femine moral reputation MB - guess the 'real' truth sounds....better from a male perpective ?...nudge wink

Back to the original question...if ye comfortable with it...all the power...just be careful & don't be 'naughty/evil' just because ye think ye invisible-what goes around comes around comes
And 'stigma' is really a matter of opinion...1 mans meat is another's poison.
Socially awkward.....sure but ultimately this is another....cyber.... medium to actually have a face2face in the real world...now that can be excellent or scary.
All us/we/them cybersouls have different reasons for our actions -so others don't understand accept? So what ?
Last now....I can't really complain about this cyber/real aspect of my life...always an enjoyable challenge so far...anybody here not agree?

Lol.there is no 'real' truth. I chatted with him online first, then met him for real (outside Centra on the quay)

I have found online chatting/dating to be much better than any other way.Obviously, it is only a means to an end - you have to meet them in real life to have a relationship.

But I do find I know somebody a lot more after chatting to them online, than if I had just met them in a pub or something.

To me there is no stigma attached to online dating.

so basically what you're saying is you'd prefer to go to tesco's as opposed to using their online service?

Thats more like what i was looking for!! Do we prefer easily accessible info on ppl or do we want to find out the hard (but possibly more exiting) way?

Thanks pan88 :-)

Ditto all those sentiments MB...so original real intro was cyber then physically meetup ...whatever was his problem with the true fact? Presume ye enquired?...so.....<blush> is he the true`1'.....or was all that cyber banter / phone chat a total vacuum ? Is cyber worth the time \effort ?
And to comment on some other posts on ye thread...good luck in realworld fellas....I find ' trolley dollys' in Tesco frustrating....sure she's pleased for me to pack her groceries in her car (so difficult trying to push 2 trolleys at once without getting rainbow colours on them from cars trying to ram my trolley ) yet never get to put them in her pantry.Wonders if she has aother fella doing that job? Probably does the cooking as well ?
Even the phone # is wrong ....sure she was blonde & naturally got confused....or simply flustered by my trolley handling skills
....I wonders if she really did leave her purse @ home &she'll put my' grocery loan' in2 me bank asap? and sure she'll replace my food /booze/clothes shopping that she 'borrowed' because she 'was listening to my interesting life story & completly forgot to buy hers....which items we seems to have in conwoman(sic)

Next time I'll mail 1st...then meet her for a 'grocery shopping Get 2 actually know u ambience' - wedding bells ?

Lol Daz,
He had no problem with the truth at all, but thought that I might. Maybe some people do. I don't.
And yes, the cyber banter has been worth the effort smitten

As for you, I'd advise online shopping and home delivery ..you get what you order that way handshake

Dunno if there ever was a stigma to be honest...small minders will always be small minders..and socially awkward people tend to be the ones locked out of their dutch courage bin in a nightclub/pub anyway.

sure i met one of my bf's on the nitelink...and jaysus poor marilyn rynn met her murderer on the same one bout a month later..freaks who are online are in the pub too ffs.

If someone is gonna stigmatise the way i met the man i get on so well with, love and cherish well really bollix to their opinion, they obviously dont know me and i really couldnt give a damn what they think, more than likely they are either bored stupid with their own life n judging cos they have nothing better to do or were taught no better...or jealous.

so who cares...stigma only exists if you give it space in the carpark.

many people lead active busy lives now, there just is not the time for some to be meeting people whilst out, others are not in to the whole pub scene thing anyways, so was never an option for them. as for the socially awkward, t'is just as easy to be awkward an clumsy online id o thought?

so, i guess id say no, i dont see any stigma.
