Organic.... To me it means fresh, healthy and soil grown.. But shouldnt that just be called food as thats what it used to be called before g.m.o (genetically modified organisms) came about and started messing with it....

Views? Facts? Figures?

Also, is it wrong that (in ireland) it is now legal to not display gmo on gmo products but organic (by law) has to display or face a fine and/or a halting of production....

It would be lovely if organic food was just called food....then they might stop charging an arm and a leg for it.

all food is organic, the problem with home grown foods or "organic" is that there's no standards and people buy it at there own risk so they have to be marked. as for gmo's there's more knowledge and standards on it than anything else, it's people have a tendency not to trust things they don't understand it's not the quality you have to worry about it's the monopoly of it.

I presume you mean all food would be organic if not sprayed with pesticides and herbicides or modified genetically?

By the way, food labelled Organic has to pass very tough standards to be allowed to be called Organic.

Same here in Canada, and it's been that way for at least 20 years, likely longer, but marketers always find a way around it, legally, to make room for "less than" products to be allowed to be named as such.

Personally, I think the only way you'll know exactly what you're eating is to grow it yourself, or get it from someone you know.

And have the other non-organic carry the burden of being labelled... "modified" or "chemically treated" or whatever process they went through, clearly marked.

Speaking of organic. Has anyone here tried to grow pumpkins? I'm thinking it's too wet to grow them successfully...anyone?
