freeman65: Not just in state care. Last weekend a young lad of 15 killed himself here. Sad to think he didn't believe there was one person he could confide in. Shame on us all.

I agree...we had 5 suicides here in Galway over a weekend about a month ago. There was uproar in Ireland and Europe a couple of years back in relation to the road deaths in our country. Europe looked down on us in regard to this. We have a conservative figure of 600 suicides in this country each year...not a squeak from Europe. Much of the policy during the recession, dictated from Europe and accepted meekly by Ireland, directly and indirectly contributes to this figure. Meanwhile, Noonan goes around talking about bond yields and corporate investment pretending that he understands.....sad flower

it amazes me that you have people living in slums in India that are very happy and contented and yet you have people in ireland that have a far better standard of living and are depressed and end up killing themselves..what the hell has gone wrong..suppose its just the nature of human condition..you see all these famous people loads of money and they end up strung out on drugs and miserable..seems they have the perfect life and yet they manage to press the self destruct..people who have a lot are tragic...the less you have the more happier you are imoireland
