If he lived way out the country with no access to good public transport, then a car might be kinda useful.

Ah I loved my mountain bike ,it robbed outside my house,
Yes handy if date has a car because I don't drive nor do I want to,I get by on planes trains and buses,on foot,lol,
Anyway I wouldn't get into a car with a man I just met just not the done thing,nothing personal on the man but always stay safe no matter how nice your date comes across,
I would expect a man to come to my home town first on first meet its just the way I am.

I suppose if my date turned into us having lots dates then I suppose him having a car would be handy but not crucial,,thete are other means of travel.
