You meet the man/woman of your dreams, and everything is perfect, except she doesn't like your dog.

If she/he gave the ultimatum, either the dog goes or me, would you give up your relationship for your dog?

TBH, one of the first things i get sorted is that the other person is ok with dogs, if its a no, then it never gets beyond "hello, nice to have met you"...

Being old doesn't necessarily mean it is suffering!

My little grey-faced mutt is happily dozing in front of the fire at the moment. ..certainly not suffering.

And the dog is happy too! laugh

Absolutely, 100% no, never, ever, not a hope in hell. And anyway, if you don't like my dog, or dogs, then I won't like you anyhow. I don't understand people who have a dislike or intolerance of animals. Says a lot about them as humans.

My dog(s) has been with me every single day, they've been my comfort and my company, why in God's name would I put man above that?

No no no no no.

Am I making myself clear enough? very mad

You have to accept people themselves so if they are a animal lover, you accept that or move on.

Hate the hairs all over the place mumbling

The question worded like that is sort of.. idiotic (not meaning to offend hug ). If you love dogs or whatever animal, then anyone you meet who hates them can hardly be perfect as that is really a huge part of one's self. Loving to live with and care for animals is deeply woven into me and effects a lot of my thinking and action. None who'd dislike animals could even fall into consideration for me, full stop, and it is also something that you will find out fast (at least if you have a dog or cat and the other comes to visit).

However, if you'd ask: What if you'd meet someone who seems to be a great match, loves dogs, but is allergic to them in bad ways - then it gets tricky. That would have me feel deeply for the other, and to kick them from my life for something they already suffer from (ie not being able to have a dog while they dearly would love to) may could have me try find amazing loving homes for my lot. It would break my heart, but with good homes I'd know my dogs would find happiness again, while a human could end up pining for a long time to come.

This is purely theoretical though, because to take such a drastic step one would have to really know that other person extremely well and be very sure it will work out. How though can you get to know someone that well if they can never even come visit you? dunno lol

Heavens no, how could I possibly be offended, when it is patently obvious that only an idiot could make that comment and not consider it offensive.laugh

If you have kids you wouldnt foster them off to a 'loving family' if in the most unlikely of cases of a possible significant other not getting along with them for whatever reason...I personally see no difference where my dogs are concerned, there is no social scinario where i see my dogs coming second in a tug of love...In my world, a dog is for life....

To not get along is different to being allergic? I am not sure whether people can have an allergy against kids uh oh

They say you can develop allergies at any point in your life, from nowhere, so even we animal maddies could end with it, and what would you do then? I know cases of people who could hardly breath anymore blues

Elsewise though I am totally with you, my dogs and cats are part of my family, and I'd defend them with every last drop of my blood. You mess with my dogs or cats, you are toast very mad but the scenario I have in my head is about someone who'd love your animals with every fibre of their being - if only they could breath in their presence sick

Hi Tiny, from what I remember of you with your horse tales from last year, I honestly think you would have a difficult time making a decision to get rid of your pets if someone developed an allergy. In all seriousness, it would be extremely difficult to find a decent home for two Dobes, who would more than likely, be either put down, or locked away behind a security fence as guard dogs.teddybear

I am already in the pickles just by my daughter in law coming this Christmas too. She is scared of about every animal on this planet wow Will be a major juggle as I will not put the dogs out, it is far too cold and they'd not understand and the dobes love the stove. She is a sweet girl, like her heaps, but this is not an easy task in a small cottage LOL

Like I said, the scenario there was very theoretical because I have 4 dogs and 5 cats, so plenty of dog and cat hair stuck to me 24/7 - none super allergic could even come near me, let alone my cottage rolling on the floor laughing so chances to get to know each other would have to happen via a permanent 10 mile distance or a space suit laugh laugh laugh

Tell your daughter in law you have the animals in kennels for her visit, then when she pulls up outside, release the hounds from hell as a surprise. laugh

Just before I go over for Charlie to go walkies.

I just want to say that it's odd how people can be allergic and sneeze around animal hair and go for their inhalers,

Does that mean they avoid hairdressers and shave themselves of all hair.

laugh .

I love animals it's the people need training,

dancing .

I can't remember the medical details, but there is a difference between human hair and animal hair. That's for example why people who would love to have a cat are advised to try spending time in the company of a Devon Rex or Cornish Rex, two cat breeds whose fur is more like hair, to see if thet can handle that better. I have two Cornishes, softest fur you'll ever touch, especially my girl grin
