Can't say I ever had an awkward question, but I a long time ago had an invite from a guy and he brought his drill sergeant along too. That sergeant was a really lovely lad, we 3 went cinema (Excalibur) and afterwards to a restaurant. At the time I was though sort of in love with one of the boys I went motorbiking with (I was only 17) and that boy was not very tall. I was wondering whether he might still had some growth in him, and that sergeant was short too. So eventually, in a moment of utter insanity I blurted out 'when did you grow this tall' (because I thought if he said he stopped growing at 22, the other boy still had some more to go, as he was only 18)
That poor man!!! I realized almost same second what a total utter heartless blunder I had committed, but it was too late
This is still following me today. I felt sooooooo guilty and ashamed, still do, but everything I ended stuttering afterwards only made it worse
Would say that must have surely been the most awkward question that guy was ever asked

About_Blank: As a 14 year old boy with a major crush on the new girl in class (and she was a dish id have to say), i, like a lovestruck fool asked her on a date....the reply was, "i wouldnt go out with you if you were the last boy alive".....that put me in my place for about, oh, ten years or so....(and who says "words can never hurt me")....
Words? They will destroy you if you choose to believe in them.

People can be really horrible things.
..and as a callow youth, we had our insecurities and none of us were born worldly wise, but hey, were better now with the onset of our twilight years...
@ Blank She might have been a dish, but what's yummy for the eye can still taste yuck, and anybody saying what she did is poison
@ heno Same thing applies, people like that are not worth ones time
As for my blunder.. I was usually extremely considerate and did not even have an issue with someone being short, my dad was not tall at all but a powerful man with a huge presence, still.. that night.. everything came out wrong and I never forgave myself for it. It was just harmless curiosity, but once spoken I realized how it must have sounded. He was such a nice guy, really lovely, and I was a braindead idiot that evening
