That's why I always have waiters adress me as 'Your Highness' or 'Greatness'

Saves a lot of ackward moments.

Yeats1980: Etiquette in our society is changing. In some ways good and others bad. I always hold a door for a woman...I always shake hands when I meet someone new or someone I haven't seen for a while...I always say "Please and Thank You" when been served in a shop or other places...I try never to interrupt someone talking...I don't eat in public places where eating doesn't usually occur...arrive on time...dress appropriately for different situations...
I think these are simple things that respect others...Relating to the restaurant incident you brought up, I think that it depends on the context. If the context is one which is formal, I think using the word "guys" wouldn't be appropriate. I think it is all about context and the two lads with you probably missed that...

Firstly, it was not a formal occasion, it was very relaxed, nice wine, and conversation etc, that was just a brief part of it.

One of the men works in, and represents one of the top hotels in London, in the media, it was the other man that made the comment, and when i defended the waiters comment, the man in that business, said,. "there you have the 2 points of view, , you are fine with it , and he isn't, so we left it at that

To expand further, i agree with a few other things that you said,
Being on time is important to me, not being interupted when speaking,
and if someone is in company, only take a call on a mobile if it is urgent, in fact turn off the phone while in company, out of respect for the other person/people.Please and thank you are a must and are basic, but the amount of people that don't say it is huge.
In most cases it is about respect for others.
It sure is nice when a man holds a door open for a woman, but it is not as important to me as the other stuff, and before i get some stick here, i would hold a door open for a man too,, no problem.

I have a thing about that term "Guys," for some reason it irritates me, I think it is just another over friendly Americanism that has crept into general conversation, it presumes that you are now instant friends with someone you have never met before, and may never meet again, sorry, but a friend is something way more than that to me.

I even hate the term Friend on facebook, most of the friends requests I get are from people I have never met, let alone consider an actual friend, so unless I have actually met and like you, don't bother sending me friend request.
