thelad2007: agree and disagree. id say people are getting desperate out there in trying to survive hence why the increase in claims. im sure theres also many opportunists out there trying to scam the system, and on top of all that, id say the insurance companies are making a fortune with all this. welcome to the scam. not looking forward to my next quote.

well you've just confrimed everything i've just said..more claims = more payouts = higher premiums...comprendeireland

I was quoted some almighty stupid prices earlier this year, all of them claiming you won't get better else where, eventually I did get better else where, and got fully comp for just over 300 with 123, shopping around will force the prices down.

And remember, 2% of the price goes on a levy for PPMA which went to the wall in 1983 (yes, we are still paying for that), and 2% has gone to bailing out Quinn (till at least 2037), as for the rest of the boo hoo, whoa is me, there are too many claims, sob story by the insurance companies, I simply don't believe a word of it.

If you want a good deal, cut out the extras, such as step back and no claims protection, it isn't worth the paper it is written on.

They are a business the same as any other business.
Don't believe all that they say!

A friend of mine was paying about €400 car insurance and his renewal was over €800...that doesn't make sense....have those "actuaries" who are highly paid in these insurance companies, underestimated the risks and claims by as much as 100% .....of course they haven't.
To test this, I entered the exact details of my friend for an online quote with the very same company he was with..the only things I changed were his name and address(same housing estate but a street away), same year of age but different month, employment details etc. exactly the same....guess what? the quote was for €430.
Who's scamming who???
Is there any business out there that's entitled to a guaranteed profit? Insurance companies seem to think they are.
If "x" insurance company loses money, they say we will put our premiums up to guarantee we make a profit...
This is total bull....If "x" miscalculated and were stupid enough to insure bad risks, we, the customer should say "tough luck" and get our insurance from company "y"
If Tesco said, we've had a very bad year and goods to the value of 2 billion were pilfered from our stores so we have to put our prices up by 50%. Sorry but you the customer has to pay for our losses!
Eh no! You say, I don't give a fluk if you lost 100 billion and have to close, I will do my shopping at Supervalu or whoever if that happens.
I have my own life and business to worry about without having to worry if you make a profit or not...
This is proper business at work ireland

In the car today I heard the sad story of an insured family on holiday when one of their number had a fatal accident.
They had travel insurance and had tremendous difficulty trying to get their loved one repatriated to Ireland when dealing with the insurance company. In the end a charity in Ireland had to come up with the money before the deceased could be returned home.
Another great example of zero compassion from an insurance company given the circumstances and customer service at it's worst.
On Liveline today.

Available to listen if u want on on recent liveline programmes. todays date 29th Sept.
