When you say home, do you mean with your wife/ex or parents?

It would depend on the person, and the reasons behind why they are still living there.

I live with my dad.

Just never moved out. But I would if I was to settle down of course.

Not a problem, lots of people are living at home longer now for many reasons.

I do however struggle with them still sharing a house with the ex, which is more common than I thought.

Personally, I think it is a good idea, if possible, for people to go out in the world and fend for themselves between living in the family home, and living with a partner.

Witty, I do know people who are in that situation and it is not ideal even for them.

A male friend of mine continued living in the same house as his ex-wife for the stability of their daughter's life, and also for financial reasons.
Because of their mortgage, he simply couldn't afford to pay rent as well.
He found it very stressful though, because his ex didn't make it easy.
He did eventually move out.
But I'm sure there are others who simply cannot afford to. It's tough.

Witty and Molly are just being nice to you. Truth is a woman sees a 40 year old man who still lives with his parents/parent as a loser. Not saying you but the thought going through a woman's mind is : -' if by this age he can't afford his own place then we can't have a future together'-

A woman usually fantasizes about the house husband white picket fence labrador kids car etc.

Now that is what i call honesty.

Yes Molly, I find it more common with men from the south. Though I can understand their position, it still doesn't sit well with me to get into a relationship, and its a must that everything is out in the open.

I knew a guy and his reason was that his daughter was 16 and he was waiting until she was 18, but it was not public knowledge that they were separated. This for me is a whole different ball game and not one I'm ok with.

I can only speak for me as we are all different but I don't see a man at home in his 40's as a loser nor do I fantasise about a house, husband etc

My brother lives with my mum, why? because he is her carer and doing a fantastic job of looking after her. So in my eyes rather than being a loser living at home in his 40's, he has my utmost respect. And any woman would be lucky to have him. Though he comes as a package with my mum

Its great that you have such a solid relationship with your Father that you both can share.
Personally though i think you should tell him to sling his hook and get his own place thumbs uplaugh

I've been asked many times if I rent my place or own it. So I'd say there would be some judgement about your situation, but only by people you dont really need in your life anyway.

Houses are dearer down southlaugh

I think each case has to be looked at independently.

I would never pre-judge until I know the facts.

It might be just innocent conversation.

I couldn't care less if somebody was renting or owned . That is their business.

As long as they are financially independent and not depending on handouts, I am happy.
