Jimmy5IA: The Hamiltons are top Cheshire politicians

Hi Mr Imp grin To me it does not matter where you come from, or how much money you have, even if the silver spoon gets stuck in the gobblaugh type of thing, a person who is genuine in his beliefs and truly wants to help our country, not his-her ego then that is that.

By the way, mine is a coal shovel, not a silver spoon.cheering

Rumples: The poor hate Labour for mass immigration and political correctness and the better off trust the Tories on the economy far more than they do Labour.

Becoming pro-business or anti-immigration is the only way Labour can get anywhere and neither is happening under Corbyn.

The problem is that many of the brighter, kinder and more lovable side of the white working class of traditional labour supporters see UKIP as another nasty party. They might like the nationalism but they also see Thatcher in UKIP.

I don't know why there is no political party which is, for example, big on the NHS, but also tight on the borders. This absence of a patriotic left-wing party is a gaping hole in British democracy.

Rumples: They weren't all put off at the general election because Nigel Farage looks like a slug. Although saying he looks like a slug hints at the reason why. To many Brexiteers UKIP still look like the reptile's party.

UKIP has to lose the image of being a party for bitter grannies and grandads and men with a long list of driving offences.

Rumples: 4 out of 17 is a shockingly bad conversion rate and that's when UKIP had a personality at the helm; it would have been 1 or 2 out of 17 without Farage. With Diane James charisma isn't going to win UKIP any votes and so UKIP better learn the meaning of the word policy.

In completely different ways I'd say UKIP are making the same mistakes as Corbyn. 4 million votes is the most UKIP will ever get if they continue sounding like Thatcher and looking senile and thuggish and 4 million votes is the most Corbyn will get if he continues to sound the way he does. It wouldn't happen over night, but eventually Corbyn would drive labour down to a few million votes.

Theresa May is the wily Stalin. Good move to distance the Tories from Thatcher and make a show of being a one-nation Tory - her political hero is Joseph Chamberlain(a protectionist sympathetic to the working class, not a globalist free trader) - and I could see Britain effectively becoming a one-party state by its own will.

May is attempting to make the Tories the patriotic party which is pragmatic on economics and May's nationalism without casino capitalism should pretty much dominate British politics for years to come.

It's not far-right anyway. Making it difficult for a 70 year old Brit to use a pension - a pension no one younger will ever enjoy - to import a 19 year old Filipino is not Fascism.

Redex: oh dear me, now we only have tories, no credible opposition opposition keeps people on their toes, and grounded.

Opposition also gets in the way when you're trying to get on with the job. Personally I'm not too worried, I don't think the Tories have gone bad.. yet.

You are right just now, but let us see the hot air into action.

Looking back I preferred coalition as they kept each other grounded in lots of ways. The lib dems paid a high price but their interventions tempered some of tories ideas.

The coalition wasn't actually too bad, tho part of that may have been the sword of damocles hanging over politics around the time of the recession. Even if they had the wrong ideas politicians started putting in a lot more effort than they did before 2008.

Downside with coalitions is the lack of accountability, like with the lib dems the junior partner takes the fall.

Yep you are right of course. I think we are the only ones in the uk at the moment. We could have a split vote and have our own coalition.rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
