Here's to US!!!!
No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,
WE ARE AWESOME !!!!
OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!
To Those of Us Born
1930 - 1979
At the end of this is a quote of the month by Jay Leno.. If you don't read anything else, please read what he said..
Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's,60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints...
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes,
we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight.. WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on..
No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
and then ride them down the hill,
only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem
We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's,no surround-sound or CD's,
no cell phones,no personal computers,
no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

And we raided gardens and ate peas, pods and all with worms in them too. Yeah, we did all that stuff and lived. Sure brings back memories...

How true it is...but it all makes me wonder...
How many kids in your school had allergies? How many children had ADD or ADHD or other behaviour and psychological challenges? Do you remember the percentage of children and families affected by autism? How many people did you know struggles with a variety and unending list of learning disabilities?
What I am saying is...really, perhaps we have been safeguarded to the point of our own detriment??? Just a thought...
But yep...memories...make me smile grin

Mommy, can I go out and climb that tree? I know it's a huge tree but there are lots of branches and if I make it to the top and carve my name in the bark up there, I can be in the gang. It's a really cool gang, mom. They get together and go on hikes in the forest for a whole day at a time sometimes. They are all friends and they bring their dogs too. Mom, I really want to do neat stuff like that instead of play Xbox or watch tv. I know I can't hurt myself playing Mario Bros but you should see the scars that some of my friends have. One guy has a scar over his eye from a hockey puck. That's a game that some of the luckey kids get to play, mom.
One of the guys fell off a brach and got a broken arm and we all got to sign heis cast. That's really cool mom. I wish I had a cast like that so all my buddies could write funny things on it.
Mommy, please let me go and try to climb that tree? I bet I can do it. Oh yeah, can I borrow a paring knife so I can prove it?

I totally agree with you Eyes... and when kids are done university, (using a computer to do research instead of a book ... and use spell check and have their grammer checked by the computer program)... get a job and expect to earn more than people that have worked their for 20 yrs, might show up at work, are late all the time, more than 1 hr for lunch, and know everything ... but don't understand crap about the real world and what it takes to do a job the right way ....

Ok rant over now..... more to follow for sure. grin

uhhh what do you think about kids allowed to go forward in school, and not being kept back?

It's not like it was in our day, and the kids/families/teachers today have lots of resources to help if the student has a learning problem.

Do you feel it is right if a person who is just coasting and not doing the work (and does not have a learning problem or disability) fails on getting homework, tests etc attendance, and is allowed to go on to the next grade? I've seen and know many with learning problems or disabilities that graduated university with very high marks and really earned them. JMO, some kids coast in school and are put forward for the wrong reasons.

...and that's another reason i won't send morgan to french school...most french schools here could care less if the kids can read or write..shove them into technical courses if they can't make it in regular classes and have them doped up on ritalin if they act up.....the number of functioning illiterates i see is beyond belief......teachers are there to teach.....make sure the kids know what they're learning...help those who need more help and support those who are more advanced....otherwise u get dropouts.I personally know people who are illiterate in both languages and they my age and younger.......sad.
Problem is people are fond of 'passing the buck' I'll stick to the english school system I know....morgan is 10 and was offered to start highschool...I said no only because of her age...I want her around her own age group.

That sure brought back good memories.

Going hunting in the forest at 7 and 8 with only rocks in your pocket. Going hunting at 9 with a BB gun, a dog and passing the night in the forest because you got lost and could no longer see where you were going. Between 8 and 10 being pulled on skis on a part snow, ice and gravel road by a horse and buggy. Cornering a huge Aberdeen Angus Bull at around 9 with only a small branch in one hand but then being thrown through the air by a female Aberdeen Angus who had a few days old calf. Having a 22 rifle at 12 and going hunting every weekend whether it was hunting season or not. Horseback riding at 8, 9 and 10 without a saddle, bringing the horse to the porch to be able to get on. Taking the horse for a ride because someone wanted to buy her and on the way back jumping all the gullies instead of running down into them and again with no saddle but a firm grip on her mane.

Yep those were good times, good memories and there are more.

Political Correctness ... who's version??? Another thing I'd vent about ... there is political correctness ... and then there is take away someone's freedom because it's one person's version of correctness that has just gotten out of control. Bend over this way because we can't offend this type of person. They can offend you but if you do it, it's politically incorrect.

Too many use it to cry and whine about not getting what they don't deserve.

Political Correctness ... Give me a break.blah

KHD100: I wonder if it's politically incorrect to make fun of your own kind???

Naw, everybody laughed at the Irish...and the Scottish, the English and French. We laughed at them all, the spics, the kites, the whatever....and we weren't offended by it....because in the end, we were laughing at ourselves. It didn't matter what name we gave ourselves or each other, in the end...it just didn't matter. We all realized we were just human beings, all on the same journey. And we smiled and laughed at it...that was our way of life. That was us...way back when.

Charlie Brown taught us that....and those were lessons well worth learning because I know that everything I need to know about life, to get me from point a to point b, I learned in Kindergarten. Maybe a good way to live life today is to not do anything, unless Simon says. And if Simon doesn't say, then I don't do.

How I miss those days...
