Profiles Question (18)

Sep 10, 2006 9:39 PM CST Profiles Question
Is it just me, or is it a little disconcerting while reading someones profile and they use a handful of curse words as to what they aren't looking for ... and didn't take the time to at least spell check something they're going to be judged by to a certain extent.

What's going on in thier heads?

sidenote ... if you're one of the pottymouths please fix the typos before you call me an idiot lol

I've heard similar remarks from another man about what women have posted in their profiles and as he commented to me - do they really expect anyone to respond to them after reading that????

As for incorrectly spelled profanity .... lol ... it seems that many of these words are the ones that truly many only know HOW to spell. I've come across many a profile wherein the user has not obviously bothered to use the spell-check option .... if this is how they choose to present themselves on a dating site ... well I guess that is their right. Do we accept someone for their imperfections or bypass them ?? Are they truly spelling errors or actually typing errors? As well many struggle with learning disabilities and just barely manage to use a computer ... so I believe that some degree of latitude needs to be given. I think its more important what they have actually written and hopefully its understandable.

A lot of people have been disappointed or disillusioned. Perhaps they are not ready to start a new relationship if they are still so bitter about their past ones.

My sentiments are similiar to what Jet has stated.

If you jump on board with profanities or negative jabs as to what not "to be" because of past experiences, then it's true...you remain in the past and still holding the hurt...

Exactly! We have to let go of the hurt (and deal with our issues) to let something new and better into our lives. Of course it's alway a risk to start a new relationship.

I know what you mean. I hate profiles like that. They are complete turn offs. Pottymouths annoy the crap out of me. Don't get me wrong. I do swear once in awhile but not in every sentence I say or type and not all the time. Definatly doesn't leave a good impression to act like that IRL and here online.

not to come to the defence of the so called "pottymouth" but, perhaps they are intentionally mis-spelling the curse words for fear of their profiles not being accepted (or maybe deleted) by the administrators of this site.

Its one thing to spell incorrectly, another to curse, but to combine the 2 is totally unacceptable.

Check this out from a profile....lol....not saying who....

Just to be clear, it's not mispelled profanities ... it's bad spelling and profanities. 2 seperate things. They always seem to get the cursing spelled right lol

You know, I posted something like this a few months ago, and was told in no uncertain terms, that people do not care how they spell or if there are swear words in their profile. Me for one, look for the ones where they know how to actually type something properly without the naughty words or dialect.

I try to look past really bad spelling and grammar mistakes but I find it difficult because it makes a person look uneducated. (Of course taking into account that for some people, English may not be their first language.) As for profanity, less is more.thumbs down

Good communication skills score points with me, though I realize anyone can make a typo now and then. A profile rife with poor spelling, horrid grammar and lack of punctuation suggests the writer is not interested in making a good impression. Having said that, I still enjoy reading posts by some who spell poorly because they have insight and a sense of humour. I would hope all are welcome on CS regardless. hug

I too, can be a stickler for spelling but have read my previous posts where I have made grammatical errors.

I take into consideration the language and culture factor before determining whether it is a question of mother tongue or simply a lack of education.

As for those who use profanity. That too, is a question of education in a certain sense and an indication of lack of maturity and sensitivity.
