There seems to be no shortage of doomsday discussions these days. Some try to relate it religious prophecies, others to "scientific" data,...ad infinitum. The Dec 21, 2012 end of the Mayan calendar is just that,...the end of the era as defined by the calendar. Why is there so little talk that it could possibly be the dawning of a new and better world? (But I seriously doubt that that will happen for humanity is a war-mongering species, who far too often concern themselves with the "end" than dealing with the present). Quit fearing the end and enjoy the journey as best you can! And remember, you will be in serious trouble 4 billion years from now if you haven't stocked up on sunblock factor 2 trillion,....for when the sun leaves its main sequence as a yellow dwarf star having consumed its supply of hydrogen, it will then begin its final phase of life, fuse helium instead and expand into a red giant and finish off this planet,...or so say those nutbar astrophysicists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Havard, MIT, Yale, Cambridge, Oxford, etc keeping telling me (and their documentaries are usually narrated by Morgan Freeman,...hard not to believe that voice!!)...rolling on the floor laughing

December 21, 2012 is merely a tomorrow that will become a future yesterday!

Now, time for me to head back to my bunker!

stringman: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN ON DEC. 21ST 2012?

The same thing that happened between the hours of 11:59pm-12:01am on the New Years Eve ending the last millenia & bringing in the next.

Y2K turned out to be nothing but hype, a chance for some people to make money off of others by selling Y2K "Survival" guides & Emergency Kits, etc. The 2012 scare is only benefitting people in the same way, I can't count the number of books I have seen that "are all about" the coming end. When it passes with nothing of consequence taking place, certain people will begin planning for the next end of the world scare. Its a common theme for every generation or so to have chosen an end of the world date for some reason or another.

Many religions believe in Apocalypticism, but Christianity takes it to a whole new level.
