Hi.. I needed it too.. so I looked it up..and here is what I found..
Registering for the National DNCL is simple. Starting September 30, 2008, call 1-866-580-DNCL (866-580-3625) or log on to and follow a few easy steps. That’s it: your number will be on the List.

And here is the link so you can read more on it..

Hope this helps.. canada

I have registered onto the do not call list. It takes a month before it is activated.
Call display on the home phone has helped alot. I don't answer 1-800 numbers and any area code numbers from southern Ont. that doesn't have an name to go with it.
When I say hello and there is no response by the second hello, I hang up (telemarketor). And they always mispronounce my last name, (Nope he's not home ,goodbye)

This reminds me of a story that happened not to long ago. A neighbor here got a call about winning a free cruise on some ship. Well the old guy said he would take the cruise. He wanted the booking for two people. Well the caller was female. So when asked for the name of the other person. He told her that she was the person he wanted, and that he wanted her naked.

She hung up the phone real fast. laugh

I want to thank everyone for their help and input, I am now registered and hopefully within a month I won't be getting the 'automated ' calls anyway. They bother me the most! When the 'automated' callers phone it is first thing in the morning and I let it annoy me for a few hours. Tahnks again everyone. Arleneteddybear

FYI ... When we register to be on the "Do not call list", it does not guarantee that we will not get calls. It is something to HELPdeter telemarketers from getting through, but does not cover automated calls, or calls from out of the country. sigh

Important information for consumers

Do not expect calls to stop immediately.

Telemarketers have up to 31 days to update their lists and to make sure they do not call you. You could still receive calls within those first 31 days.

Registering on the National Do Not Call List (DNCL) will not eliminate all telemarketing calls. There are exemptions within the Rules that may allow calls from organizations such as charities, those with whom you have existing business relationships, political parties and newspapers.

You can further reduce unwanted telemarketing calls by asking these organizations to place your number(s) on their own do not call list.

The most annoying calls we get are for news, which we always say no and they don't quit. And recordings that are scams, saying we won a trip and if you push a button to talk to a live person, the *catch* is they SELL every part of the trip to you, so it aint "won" at all. Ugh. I usually don't answer any longdistance calls. Never get local telemarking calls. I tried to do it once for a job, it only called the USA, different states, I walked out after an hour laugh

Thanks for the info - it was easy to do online. Will just continue to hang up fro the next month. Hmmm...when I am in a pissy mood, I tend to take it out on the telemarketers - the ones that are giving me the last chance to lower my credit card interest - love pressing 1 and then yelling F**k Off into the phone! yay Make me feel better....angel

well I was going to suggest a boat horn blast - but the 'do not call' list is probably more effective (and you won't hurt your own ears).

UPDATE: After registering online on the 18th of January, I would guesstimate that the call volume has decreased by atleast 75%. The annoying one that is still coming through is the one that tells me it is my last and final chance to decrease my interest rate on my credit card....hmmm...don't have a bleeping credit card! laugh I folow KDH's advice with this one...cheers

In the time it takes for the DNC list to activiate, when they call tell them you are a little short on cash and ask them for a money order.

Tell them you died if they ask for you by name.
