In the event that your life took a tragic turn such as death or permanent impairment, do you have a person who has access to your computer, passwords & usernames and the like to terminate any memberships etc that we accumulate on the net?

I ask because as I was signing up for another site with good deals etc, it crossed my mind. What would happen if I died and all this stuff was just accumulating out there in cyberspace about me. All the emails clogging up. I am thinking maybe if an account online goes inactive for a certain period then maybe an email should be sent and if it goes unanswered the profile should be deleted permanently. Even with me here present there are many accounts I have had to sign up to get benefits and never used again and for the life of me I could not remember them all. dunno

Considering most people now have facebook, twitter, hotmail, yahoo, skype and other social sites not to mention memberships for various sites, banking etc, there is a lot of stuff going around out there and our details are vulnerable. dunno

I know I personally have nobody that could take care of my online stuff in such an event.

you could appoint power of attorney to somebody, but if say you died yesterday, why would it bother you? Very thing you do online, chat in here, visit web site whatever is for ever stored on the server files. Server files cannot be deleted, e.g your service providers server will forever have copy of every single webpage you opened, including this comment.

Better to worry about your preparation for your next reincarnation, far more important i think
(and that's well meant to)

I could die today and nobody would be the wiser. I suppose with social sites such as facebook which me and most of my family are on, if I did die it wouldn't take long for the news to filter into here but it still wouldn't mean that my profile would be shut down.dunno

You are the profile you portray, whether that be alive or deceased.

I know I could do the power of attorney thing but I can't even remember all the stuff I have signed up for otherwise I would cancel out of a lot now. laugh I am not particularly worried about it, it was just something that crossed my mind and raised some questions. And don't you think it is an unnecessary use of resources, how much useless information is going to be floating around out there in say 10 years time? Or useful if you are a hacker and know how to use & access this information?

laugh True, maybe they could use my profile for the eulogy.

Ralf was short with brown hair and blue eyes. She works in the adult field and has kids who lives with her. She is cheap and easy but sometimes expensive and hard to get along with. She wants friendship and is not single and not looking, especially now that she has departed us.

rolling on the floor laughing I think i need to review my profile if that is the case.

I am sorry but you are right and wrong. Once you account is cancelled all your activity on the providers server is deleted and over writted with new data. The only information that will be kept is on servers that are overseas.
You can clean out your own browsing histoy so it can easy be done.

I have appointed my daughter as my execitor of my will as she gets the lot. And in my wi there is a list of things to be done. As the execitor she has the power to do such things.

Last year (I think), in the internationals a fella passed away. Now I dont know what went on in the background, but as soon as the mods got wind of it, they closed the gentlemans account and set up a rememberance thread for him ....

it was very nicely done.

I've told Short the particular forums I'd like her to post a message on should I pop off this mortal coil any time soon. But really Ralf when you think about it, if you or I or anyone died, a forum person would know, as most of us have at least one or two people we've met in real life and have contact with.

So I guess that accounts would be shut down that way, and contacts and so forth.

Another forum that I am a member of, where people do die (regularly) has a special locked section for members, where we can pay our respects to the person and such without the general public being able to access that area.

Still, think how all our ramblings, humour, arguments, and such will be there hanging around cyberspace just waiting for someone to put Ralf or Shell225 into their search engine.. uh oh

for someone to put Ralf or Shell225 into their search engine..

yeah the same way you can paste lines from a scammers mail into google...i think google spiders this site, i've treads from here appear in google

think some sites drop members after long time inactive, like hotmail used to have three month and if you didn't log in in three months you had to reactivate your account or open new one, not sure whether that still applies

Hi, I'm a happy go lucky person who enjoys socialising and meeting people.
I'm happy single. I love the great outdoors, fishing, spending time with my ponies, bushwalking, camping. I believe that its important to get to know someone before embarking on a relationship.

I'm pretty energetic so I dont enjoy watching TV or going to the movies. I do like art galleries, museums, theatre, reading, watching the stars. I like to laugh.. a lot. I like long talks, about anything. I dont have to agree with someone elses opinion, I don't need to be right, but I do enjoy listening to peoples ideas on just about everything.

I have too many pets. I'm not into pubs and clubs. However I do enjoy live bands and go to concerts. I like music, and am a terrible singer and cant dance to save myself.. but I love to sing and dance.. around the house anyway. I am open and honest and look for that in others.

I am looking to meet people, if it turns out to be friends, thats great. If you dont have a photo up, or wont attach a photo to your message please dont bother contacting me.

I a program called RoboForm to remember passwords and the sites address, login detail etc
The latest version isn't that attractive but is otherwise a useful program that would go part way to fulfilling your desire

My computers need fingerprint-input to start the operating system. The hard drives may be taken out and opened with another computer but anything sensitive (Bank account numbers etc) is encrypted. The banks have the details of my next of kin.

They could hold down "0" when starting up the computer but that would automatically format the hard drives and reload the OS removing the applications used to openmostfiles.

yes for others to seek should they wish, not to be broadcast by the likes of you.

Interesting that you have extended an apology I have not sought, need, respect, or would bother to accept.

Rob, to this day I've never put any value on your inept, insane ramblings, so please stop flattering yourself that your latest re'cidivous display of shrewishness would be considered by me as anything more than snot on the disposable tissue of my life.
