So what do you think about the current debate?
New Zealand has signed the Kyoto Agreement but Australia hasn't.

Each to their own I suppose, it looked like a while ago signing it backfired on us a bit financially wise but after hearing the latest carryon about what it could cost it might have been a good idea.dunno

Very Melbourian of you.

John Howard has pointed out that neither China nor India had to reduce green house emmissions and that the USA refused to sign. Together those three countries were generating 50% of the World's green house gases. I suppose the justifcation for allowing China and India off was that they wouldn't sign if the aggreement was going to stifle their growth into the First World ecconomies. But 50% of the gase production is a big chunk.

I personally think that there was not enough education done about the subject. The accademics got together and talked about it. Eventually the politicians got to international conferences and accepted or rejected agreements, but the voters in countries like Australia and the USA never heard of the Kyoto Agreement until it had been voted on.

Isnt this a touchy issue!! For years the environmentalists have been verbally abused and attacked from media/governmental departments for decades !! We all know this planet is in trouble !!
Did they ( the politicians or capitolist care?? I do not think so !
Salutations to the NewZealand prime minister!!
A country nowhere near as big as my homeland ,,yet has the
intestinal fortitude to pull its own weight! And can make decisions
on her own FREE WILL !!
Our land is in trouble,,almighty trouble,,and still it is not heard by these governments. When the icecaps melt and the oceans rise maybe it will sweep away the rubbish that has been governing this earth for so long!!
And there is another decidedly important issue here aswell,,
It is called GLOBAL DIMMING,you maybe supprised at what you read,,
AUSTRALIA ,,WAKE UP,,WE NEED TO ALL BAND TOGETHER AND MAKE THIS GOVERNMENT LISTEN TO OUR VOICES,,
Is it going to happen?? I think it will take a disaster before
all of humanity will band together.

It can't be THAT touchy. So far only 5 of us have taken part in the discussion. I sometimes think that if I wrote something like, "I hate fat chicks" or "What would you do if the person above you was covered in ice cream" there would be an intense reaction. But if you want to talk about something that really matters and .... well .... it goes off like an explosion in a porridge factory.

Perhaps human kind has had their time ... it is time we all boiled away.
