Not a huge fan but it is a good way to keep in touch with distant friends and relatives

I'm not a big fan of facebook, but it is one way of staying in touch with rellies that live overseas... particularly, if someone has passed away, or is having a baby... certainly beats myspace that my kids used to rave about...

fb can be good for sharing information and photos with people easily.

It can be intrusive if you dont think about what you put in your profile, like most things, less can be more.

Through facebook I am now in contact with old school friends that I never would have found. Also extended family that had drifted off the radar.

Yes, I agree Jem... fb is a great sharing tool, and you can see what your friends and family are doing.. great for sharing info, photos, etc.. I am for it definately...

But there are certain people that you just dont invite to your wall to see you family photos..

And this is where the closed groups come in...

You can join/ be invited in a closed group, and only those that belong to the closed group can see what is going on...

Recently on one of the closed groups, we all shared our cities... some had that 360 degree feature...that allowed you to manipulate the photo and zoom in and out like google earth... that was soo good.

thumbs up

I am on FB but not very often, its got its place like keeping up with family and friends' but I have seen in some cases it can take over peoples lives and in that context its very dangerous and intrusive.

Believe it or not there was a world before FB and somehow we got by without it ok.JMO. dunno

I think you are correct Martia I only allow my family and very close friends on my FB I don't use it a lot just pop in now and then to stay in touch with family they all live in eastern states so it is great for catch up's and lastest family goss. I would never allow strangers on my FB like it's been said don't want strangers looking at your family and your personal life.

I think it is terrible to hear these young kids getting on FB and chatting with complete strangers very scary Where are all these kids parents they should be controling what their kids are doing.
I have heard people say Oh! I trust my kid he-she wouldn't do anything wrong on FB HELLO!!!! they are kids very vunerable . very mad

Facebook has in place settings that is supposed to protect under 18's, however, if a parent really wants to protect their child, change the age to over 18, and then go into settings to fine tune everything, which includes not being able to search via email, not having friends of friends etc....

I realize parents can def do that and good caring parents will , what I said is there are still parents out there that think their kids wouldn't be led astray on FB and say.... "oh I trust them " meaning they don't check what their kids are doing on line" ignorant or parents are never home because they both work theses days it goes on with a lot of families.sigh

Probably the same parents who think that their kids don't smoke, don't drink and stay out until all hours... doh
Fb is really good to stay in touch with friends, family, old school/work mates, but every so often, you do get the cyber bullies - I guess that is the downside of the worldwide net .... imo...tip hat
