I'm guessing as much going by talkback radio where people have been trying for yonks to get into the minning industry only to be repeatedly knocked back

Its because they are going through the wrong avenues. There are many agencies out there scamming, making you pay thousands of dollars for courses with no guarantees. While there are others who offer those courses for free such as Hays…etc I cannot think of them of the top of my head right now, I do know there are few smaller ones as well. I was thinking of going in there myself but when you add it all up, there are more disadvantages than advantages unless you are in administration. JMO.

If mining giants aren't employing Australians, are they getting kick- backs from the government??

Makes me wonder with so many overseas people being employed under the N71 (dont' quote me) visa....

i heard on the radio last week that the over seas workers do get paid aussie wage rates,,they have to by law,,
but the aussie workers get a lot more and will not work for the aussie wage rates,
one of the problems in spain ,,so my spanish mate says,,
is the amount of over seas workers working for less,,
was talking to a sales rep who could not get a job in the mines but his mate did, and is earning 188 dollars an hour,,phew it seems a lot that,,

I have done cleaning before and I was on $860 per week after tax.
That was for 5 nights a week and only about 30 hrs a week.

But there heve been some cleaning jobs I have done that had piss all pay.

I work 12 hour shifts and 4 days on and 4 days off. Having 4 days off is the best part, many people are jealous of that. grin

Not in the mining game. Only thing to do is drink and gamble on the days off and end up coming away with nothing. Most mine jobs are 6/7 days per week, basically 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off, which does not suit a lot of people because they have to find another home to stay in. And only fly in/ fly out to Perth so only good if your family is in Perth. Guy I knew slept in his car most of his off time, paid for a shower in the truckie stops.

And a mate's daughter and her husband both lived out of Perth and both had mining jobs. Except he had 3 on/3 off while she had 2 on/2 off. Good money, not a lot of time together but they were not doing it longterm, just enough to get ahead.

The climate is said to be a killer too, if you're used to the southern climate, the heat could kill you.
