Yes it would be if you are one of them -1900 actually.

Radical changes to print media about to take place, technology taking over, closing of local/regional papers, charging for online content. You can do a google search or here is one link, haven't read it but will give you the general gist? hug

Whoa! that's one helluva link!!

How's your summer going for you in your neck of the woods??

From what I can tell, these are all major market papers.
I am more interested in small community newspapers with a circulation of 1000 to 2500. Any direction there?

Not as good as I would like.
In a nasty divorce. My ex is trying to shut down my paper. i have published it for 9.5 years and have missed 2 weeks of publishing.
If she accepts my offer, which expires June 30, I will be back up and running again. f not, I am free to go anywhere. That is why I am looking at Australia. I meet the qualifications of your government, ecxept age. I have sent an email asking for more info relating to my age. Lookforward to this adventure of research.cheers

Not in that business looking but as you can see from that Fairfax link there is a big shake up going on here in the newspaper business - but that could open opportunities for people interested in smaller communities that the big boys don't want to be bothered with.

I think local communities like their local rag (newspaper) as it relates to their area more so??

Good luck with that. handshake

So Carl, is that why 60mins and other abc, sbs hard hitting journals had the rug pulled out from under the feet... and the tough stories become superficial magazine type editorials instead..

I really enjoyed the early years of 60 mins.... Yana, Mike, etc., but then I also used to enjoyed 9's wide world of sports until they screwed with that programme...

Will anybody have the luxury of time for 'investigative journalism'??

Now that we are in the era of 24/7 instant communication from any corner of the world, not much research done, rumours become fact without any checking of details??? will we see the end or cutailing of the hard stories that take months of fact finding, digging deep etc.??

confused wave conversing

I only watch the news on Sky channel love Paul Murrey live as its entertaining and must admit rather Liberal sometimes.

Still get the Herald Sun delivered every day as will always prefer to read the newspaper over the internet anytime but I am of the older generation, but still the Sun has a really healthy following and still increasing sales.grin

.... part two
The real estate agents did not like these stories. Because they were major advertisers, when the real estate agents demanded that Halpin go he was fired.
There are lower forms of scum than real estate sales people, but not many in my experience. Drug dealers generally have more morals.
Back to the TV shows.
The producers (who are not journalists) have a mindset that puff pieces about neighbourhood fence disputes, weight loss and celebrity relationships are what the viewers want.
Add to that the lack of training of the faux journalists and management decrees about sacking anyone whose work results in a writ and you have a formula for drivel to be presented as news and current affairs.
As for sport, do not know and do not care.
I would rather stick toothpicks in my eyes than watch thugby league, cricket, or any of the other popular sports.
Six training sessions per week at the dojo and the occasional tournament gives me all the sport that I need.
