oz_man: Religion can only help if you can believe in whatever it teaches, quite hard for any sensible person.

Spiritualism can help a lot. There's heaps of spiritual music out there that works on sad people. Its best if can understand what they are singing. My favorite is Sufi music.

Here's a spiritual song for you to try:

yes i agree, spiritualism teaches that it is up to you what spiritualism is to you....no religion teaches that......repent or go to hell.......what a joke that is

I think generally religious/spiritual people are as happy as those that are not religious/spiritual.. comes down to the individual getting their own desired "fix"..

The religious/spiritual, in times of hardship turn to their beliefs for comfort and guidance or to clear the mind.. another may tun to something else to get what they see as the same fix... whether it be out on the town, drinks with mates.. or turn to drug use (which am not condoning), or their sport, or whatever it is, but they have some outlet that helps turn them from sorrow to feeling better.. hell even turning to chocolate has people happy and they may or may not be relig/spirit people... They all attain a pretty high feeling happiness but in different ways.
