This is what faces us every day' the Media only ever seems to serve this up to us 24 hours a day.
If there is a murder they zoom into the crime scene showing us the blood, we get fed a diet of misery and sadness for instance the death of a footy player on holiday in the USA got pages of coverage down to the last bloody detail.
The Trolls on face book and twitter are reported on all the time ...I could go on and on' is it any wonder that clinical depression is at an all time high.
The media defends itself by saying this is what we need to know ...why do we need to know?????????????????????????????? JMO

Because that is what sells. That is what people want to watch and/or read.
A couple of times naive wooly-headed idealists, who had more money than sense, tried to publish newspapers that had only good news. They went broke pretty quickly.

Yes I heard about thatblues so what does that say about the human race...in an odd way its like reading and hearing about other peoples tragedy and glad its not us I suppose.
But I cannot for the life of me understand why crowds gather round accidents just to see.......and en masse mourning of like Lady Diana's death' sorry.... cant come to terms with the herd like behaviour and mentality. sigh

Herd mentality is what it is all about.

But I do slow to look at car crashes but not to see the gory bits. Part of my work is road safety and I look to try and work out why it happened so that it could possibly be prevented from happening again.

I contracted to work for VicRoads for a year and during the last 6 months, had to investigate and file reports on 23 fatalities in half of the region I was in (covering 1.3 million people). Of these, 22 were driver error....speed, drink, drugs, medical (mental & physical), or just plain stupidity. Only 1 could be called an accident....front wheel seized up when it caught up a tyre casing from a truck.

And Carl is right, newspapers sell because people want to read about the bad news as it is happening to someone else and not them. For the last 12 months, I bought the morning paper because it was $2.20 for the paper and a coffee. Read enough in the time it took to have a smoke. They have stopped the deal (coffee is now $3.60) and I don't miss reading the crap.

Yep, painting, as well as a few other monotonous tasks around the house. I started, and just kept going, I probably won't feel like doing it again for a while.laugh

Probably will anyway though.mumbling

Funny, the last time I bought a newspaper was to wrap my dishes four years ago, and haven't watched TV regularly in over a decade. laugh

All I get are the happy stories about lost monkeys and socks being recovered from dryers. laugh

tongue lol

Finally managed to get my TV set out the front for a pickup, haven't watched it forever and it's a few years old soooo...

Slid it off the entertainment unit onto the sofa, slid the sofa over towards the living room door, lowered the TV onto an old blanket then dragged that out the front door, across the lawn and onto the kerbside flex

Very liberating not to have that big thing silently staring at me laugh

Oh, would you prefer some other big silent thing staring at you? grin banana

rolling on the floor laughing

I still have my TV, it sat in my shed for 6/7 years, then my Mom's basement, and now it's in the back of my big truck. I sure hope it still works when I finally plug it in again, someday. I refuse to buy a flat screen until I know it's dead, and even then it's iffy.laugh
