Took the kid down this morning to the licence centre, and she pasted? She is now on red Ps? Her mum took her down on Friday and she failed, apparently she filled the kids head with what ifs? Before hand, anyhow after shopping and finding some new red plates for her she drove home, a little latter she said she was bored , so I gave her the keys to the car and said well go driving, she was back within an hour?

Yes the car is still intact, it’s a 4WD after all? Yes I was worried, but you get that! Kids have to learn after all, and they wont learn by them selves if not by themselves?

So how did you approach this situation or are you yet to get there? Seeing your child drive your car out the driveway for the first time?
professor cheers

yes, congrats to "Little Blizz".
Mine pretty much had their own cars ready to go by the time they got their licence. They've had the odd bingle here and there, but seem to be getting better by the time they are off their P's

Well done to the 'kid' ..applause cheering

Seriously Bliz, thanks for sharing that , that is a huge development step..

How did I feel, I had boyz, and they already had their boy toys before they got their licences.

Funny thing, because their dad died in a car crash, both of them, bought cars, did them up and painted them, fiddled around and got to know how cars work, did them up... all that sort of stuff, but neither were keen to get their licence. In anycase, I would not allow it, as I was not keen, until the eldest turned 19. Then he did, to help me out with the ferrying to and fro the soccer games..

I was well pleased.!! But I would not have liked it if they were younger than 19 yrs. applause

Yeah it's scary when they get their licence and we do worry. I think we always do. I worry about my daughter she has two bikes and as much as I love bikes they are more vulnerable on bikes. But we have to let them get out there in the big wide world after all we were kids once and got our licence too.

Congratulations to your daughter well done thumbs up

Blizz, you sound like a very proud Dad.

And you really showed you had confidence in her ability when you gave her your keys.

Gave the keys to my Peugot to my daughter when I was away for 6 weeks recently. Good feeling to have that confidence. No fuel costs (fuel card) or tolls charges in that one for her. But she only drove it once because she really hates autos.

Congratulations to your daughter, what a big day in a young persons life. i still remember the day I got my 'P's'

After recently surviving teaching three sons to drive it was a special day for me when the last one drove out the driveway on his own. Had a few scary moments while teaching know it all sons to drive. I laugh now when I remember how they would say "I know!!!!!!' whenever I tried to point out a road rule or give advice. Well we all survived to laugh at the memories. lol

It's a great feeling, so much less stress, they gain their independence, you get a life!

Just done it with my daughter, 12 mths is a long time to be on 'L's' - but for good reason? thumbs up

They benefit from that much more time behind the wheel. thumbs up

"Just don't get too cocky" was my advice to mine when they did get the keys in their hand ?? cool

The kid graduates year 12 at the end of the month, she has a job lined up as a graphic designer part time for the next two years as she continues her studies at Tafe, then hopefully gets into Curtin university,

The only thing though, last week I let her drive the car and the air-con was on in the car, I said what’s the hold up why are you driving so slow? She said the car was unusually running sluggish? So I accidentally showed her the power button, she now wants a car like mine with a power button?
doh cheers

Yes, it is a testing time when the offspring venture out on to a public road.
My daughter has been driving since the start of the year and I am surprised that she has not killed herself, or someone else . . . yet.
The girl has appalling spatial computation ability.
US Air Force pilot selection research established that only 10% of females had the spatial ability of the average male.
Yes, Virginia, on average men are better drivers than women. I emphasise 'on average'.
I suppose this goes back to our origins, when the women looked after the kids while the men had to be able to throw a spear well enough to connect with dinner. Women have simply not evolved to have the same spatial ability as men.
The result is that my girl is utterly unable to judge speed and distance and make even the most basic common sense risk assessments as a driver.
Daddy wrapped her in the latest European crash survival technology to improve her prospects. comfort

You should try driving a truck near a school at pickup or drop off time? I point out all the schools on the maps we have to the new drivers, saying you do not want to be near here between 8.30/9.20 as the drivers there are mad? The way women drive around schools when dropping off kids is criminal! No wonder our kids are getting chubby if they cant even walk too school? Even my kid gets picked up by grandma or her mother every morning and afternoon and her schools is a five minute walk if that? We walk the cat further than that?
