In the ancient Hebrew, they were so paranoid about saying the name of God that they wrote it without the hebraic equivalent of vowels. So it was written YHWH.....
Hebrew and Arabic written languages were very similar without the vowels in the written script. Which resulted in many mis-translations from Hebrew to Latin and then European languages (thanks to King Henery for starting this revolution). The "Modern Day Bible" is supossedly to be a tranlation of the original Hebrew text for the OT and early Latin NT text.
The most classic example is "witch." Never such a word existed until the Church invented it. Appears in the St James Version of the Bible.
