Halv0: It really doesn't matter.... "JESUS" is the ancient Greek form of "JOSHUA". In ancient times the meaning was far more important than the name. The meaning of both of these names is "God who saves"... more or less in English.... Many might be surprised to find that there were quite a few "Jesus"'s walking around at the time of Christ.....

In the ancient Hebrew, they were so paranoid about saying the name of God that they wrote it without the hebraic equivalent of vowels. So it was written YHWH.....

Hebrew and Arabic written languages were very similar without the vowels in the written script. Which resulted in many mis-translations from Hebrew to Latin and then European languages (thanks to King Henery for starting this revolution). The "Modern Day Bible" is supossedly to be a tranlation of the original Hebrew text for the OT and early Latin NT text.

The most classic example is "witch." Never such a word existed until the Church invented it. Appears in the St James Version of the Bible.

most of the people that have been exaulted in some form have been born before their time,

mickyj63: A very interesting question .
Like a few others above I would like to say Christianity has borrowed so much from other religions !!
One god come from zesus of greek mythology he was the GOD of Gods in greek mythology.
Garden of Eden was stolen from norse mythology .Except in norse mythology the end of the world was a garden with one man and one woman left!!
Was jesus real I really dont know .what Ive seen on doco's at the time of jesus performing his miracles others in the roman occuppied world were also doing the same things .In other words it was by chance that the Jesus religion took off and others failed!!
So christanity sprung from judaisim and then islam from both!!
Islam believes in Jesus Christ as the last prophet before Mohammad.
Christiany springs from judaisim but believes in hell and the jews dont oh thats right that bit comes from greek/roman mythology!!
Other things spring to mind Irish christianity was different they were brought into the fold some how by the Pope at some early stage !!
Priests used to be able to be married someone changed that as well!!
One of the apostles name escapes me could have been one of the thomases wandered through the desert and ended up in inda .He set up his own christain church .When the portugese arrived in india they were told they were catholic and brought into the fold !!

So was he real I have no idea .He does seem to have spawned a money earning industry !!
And no one knows this but I give a blessing to the godess of the lake and earth when i start fishing or catch my first fish !!! Doesnt hurt hey

Micky, a bit disjointed here.

Mohammad recognised Jesus as a 'prophet' worth recognising as his teachings were not that much different to what Mohammad was preaching.

The Krishna belief recognises and documents Jesus as having studied Krishna beliefs in India.

The Romans never recorded his birth because of a prophesy that the Son of God would be born in Judea. An order came out that all males born around in Jeruselum at that time were to be slain. So no males were officially born. Something to with the 3 unWise Men showing up and said they looking for the Son of God. And Joseph and Mary did the bolt very quickly after the birth.

And his death would not have been recorded as they turned this over to the Jews because they didn't want to stir up any trouble against themselves but leave the blame to the Jews.

The Catholic Church had many opposing forces within it during the early centuries. Mainly the Fransiscans and the Augustines. And they managed to wipe out (literally) most of the opposition within the religion.

In Britain, Ireland was very hard to bring under their sway. St Patrick managed to adopt a lot of their pagan festivals to fit in with the Catholic Faith that occured around the same time of the year.

Scotland was very faithful to the Fransiscan doctrine until a Papal Bull made the Augustine way the 'True Way' for the Catholic Church. And it was not until the Pope issued an Excommunication Edict that the Scots considered changing. Resulted in the Protestant Church of Scotland (and Presbyterian) in the end.
