Tomorrow I will attend services at the nearby cenotaph to commerate and remember all the brave Canadian men and women who have served Canada and its people during times of conflict. I also wish to extend heartfelt thanks to all members of the Australian and New Zealand Armed forces who have been resolute allies and friends. I still remember the neighbor coming down for coffee and speaking ever so highly of Australian and New Zealand forces, especially when he fought alongside with them at the Battle of Kap'Yong in the Korean War. And more recently there is Afghanistan. Again, thank you. May we only meet in the pub instead of shoulder to shoulder on the battlefield.

Thanks A Non a Moose for sharing those clips. it brings the wars of past back to life and I am always moved by the bravery and sacrifice of those men and women of the time.

As a mother of three grown sons, everytime I am reminded of the great wars and not so great wars, i thank God that they were not born in such times. Young men seemed to go off to war in great spirits as if off on the adventure of a lifetime not ever imagining the horrors that awaited them, many never to return to their loved ones again. The grief that their mothers and families would have held for the rest of their lives is unimaginable.

i saw a segment on the weekend Sunrise show this morning about a book that has been produced from a large collection of photographic glass plates taken during WW1 found in France recently. Below is the explaination and link to the photo gallery. Many of the photos are informal and give an insight into the soldiers experiences at that time. I found them very interesting.

"Ninety-five years ago, in a small French village a short march from the allied frontlines against the German army, a husband and wife team began a unique historical record of the First World War which has stayed hidden – until now.

For the first time in nearly a century, we can see part of a massive collection of photographic glass plates taken during the First World War which eminent historians are now hailing as ‘priceless’ and as one of the most important ever historical discoveries from that conflict."

WHOA! What the heck happened there? I most certainly didn't mean to post two times without response! It might be time to trade in the old 286 Computer!

You are welcome LiLee (and nice to meet you!) Thank you VERY much for the link to the photos. Indeed a rare and priceless treasure trove!
