November 25 is White Ribbon Day - a male-led campaign to stop violence against women.
What a great campaign!! It's so good that these things are being talked about and that men are leading the way in changing the attitudes of the minority of men and women who still think it's okay to settle domestic disputes with violence.
I have been fortunate enough never to have experienced domestic violence myself or witnessed it in my family, but I did have a friend when I was younger who would occasionally turn up with black eyes etc.
I could never understand why she returned but then again I wasn't in her shoes and did not judge her decisions. I also now regret that I didn't do more to help her, but I felt at the time she didn't want my intervention. She drifted away from our group of friends and I have wondered what ever became of her. I hope she found some happiness and escaped the violence.
Has anyone else known someone affected by domestic violence? Were you able to help them?
Lets hope this great campaign helps those who commit this crime to find support and other ways to cope with their anger.
All power to the GOOD men in our lives
