i resisted for a very long time not to get a credit card but recently gave in as I couldn't book anything online without one.

i should have gone for a debit Visa card or such. i swore I wouldn't use it to buy stuff just cause I could. But sadly the willpower is weak when faced with a retail hit. Now I am just like the masses, a victim of the credit card epidemic.

in my defence i do always pay much more than my minimum payment each month in an attempt to pay it off, if only i didn't keep putting stuff back on it

i have been caught in the trap of credit crying

I try and pay up front for most of my stuff but the bigger stuff that doesn't always work.

And yes, I got a credit card reluctantly years ago before debit cards were around and have bought a couple of bigger things on it but like to pay it off as quick as thumbs up

I would hate to be one of those people that pull the credit card out for just about everything? thumbs down

Had a credit card since the late 70s. Always paid it off on time. Until I got divorced and was too broke to make more than the minimum payments. Needed food and petrol and presents for the kids. But avoided putting any "luxuries" such as clothes on it.

Cleared the debts and managed the same until 2nd divorce and the legal vampires sunk their teeth in. After a 5 year property settlement battle and no more vampires (legal and otherwise), no more debt. And for the last 4 years, only used it once when buying a car for my daughter. Paid it all back in the week later when I could get to the bank. Actually, they owe me as I dumped a bit extra in.

Still go down the track that if I haven't the money for it, I don't really need it.

There is no credit limit I cannot reach! Somebody stop me! I have been living on the card for a year now, it’s the new house thing! Building fences buying plants changing accounts, it all cost a little extra, then there are the water rates and council rates that you don’t get when renting, the up side is I am actually paying for this place rather than just renting paying someone else’s mortgage!

Life’s good!

Funny how the water and council rates don't seem to come into consideration when the money hungry builders sell you a place. "Why pay $300 a week for rent when you can be in your own home for $295 a week."

And then all the extras you have to have to get the house to be your home.

It is a great feeling being able to get your own home looking good. And saying "I did that."

Then there is the saying "What you sow you will reap." Do what you can and enjoy what you achieve.thumbs up

One of the new guys at work is paying $600. Per week in rent? that’s $200. More per week than my mortgage, He and his family not long came over from Adelaide, looking for work, plenty of jobs here, they are now selling their place in Adelaide and buying over here, the rents here are ridiculous! With a thousand people a month moving here its going to get worse! But there are job vacancy signs out on the roadside everywhere? Three off our guys at work have left for the mines, making big bucks now, but I have the kid to look after now, money isn’t everything,
cool grin cheers

Was reading not long ago where the "Fly in/Fly out" companies are paying top dollar for rentals. Locals cannot afford to live there any more.

Heard of a couple who had retired and were doing the "Grand Tour" around Aust, and looking for some work along the way to help pay for the trip.

They landed contract jobs with a Council in top of WA. As well as casual wages, they got very cheap rental from the Council. Locals who live there have to pay triple in rent, and they want to live there forever.

...or I just purchase it. I don't necessarily need credit to buy what I want. I do have a credit card... It's used when I am overseas , as a back up.
