Between Gandi and Jinnah they lead the people to slaughter 20 million of their fellow's , men, woman and children were hacked to bits in that time . Lord Mountbatten resumed control to stem the slaughter .Both Gandi and Jinnah would have been finnished politically if it had been known that they had ceded power to Mountbatten after inderpendence .They will be rotting in hell .

I gain a lot from reading about Mahatma Gandhi, think i gianed most from his view on peoples right to their opinion, and his/my right to mine...
Bit od google:

On May 22, 1894, Gandhi established the Natal Indian Congress (NIC). Although the NIC began as an organization for wealthy Indians, Gandhi worked diligently to expand its membership to all classes and castes. Gandhi became well-known for his activism and his acts were even covered by newspapers in England and India. In a few short years, Gandhi had become a leader of the Indian community in South Africa.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as ‘Mahatma’ (meaning ‘Great Soul’) was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. His father was the Chief Minister of Porbandar, and his mother’s religious devotion meant that his upbringing was infused with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non-injury to living beings and vegetarianism.

Gandhi suffered six known assassination attempts during the course of his life.

During the first years of the Second World War, Gandhi’s mission to achieve independence from Britain reached its zenith: he saw no reason why Indians should fight for British sovereignty, in other parts of the world, when they were subjugated at home, which led to the worst instances of civil uprising under his direction, through his ‘Quit India’ movement. As a result, he was arrested on 9th August 1942, and held for two years at the Aga Khan Palace in Pune. In February 1944, 3 months before his release, his wife Kasturbai died in the same prison.

In 1919, Gandhi launched an organized campaign of passive resistance in response to Parliament's passage of the Rowlatt Acts, which gave colonial authorities emergency powers to suppress subversive activities. He backed off after violence broke out–including the massacre by British-led soldiers of some 400 Indians attending a meeting at Amritsar–but only temporarily, and by 1920 he was the most visible figure in the movement for Indian independence.

In the famous Salt March of April-May 1930, thousands of Indians followed Gandhi from Ahmadabad to the Arabian Sea. The march resulted in the arrest of nearly 60,000 people, including Gandhi himself.

Hello Robo , AA what he wanted and what happened were to very different things . The change that he brought about brought savagery to his people much worse than anything the English ever did . Not sure it has stopped yet as India and Pakistan have eyedballed each other with nukes . All that can be said that India has the vote and it's elections run better than the US's .

The son of a senior government official, Gandhi was born and raised in a Hindu Bania community in coastal Gujarat, and trained in law in London. Gandhi became famous by fighting for the civil rights of Muslim and Hindu Indians in South Africa, using the new techniques of non-violent civil disobedience that he developed. He led the protests against the anti-Asiatic laws, but only to gain better standing for Indians in South Africa.

Returning to India in 1915, he set about organising peasants to protest excessive land-taxes. A lifelong opponent of "communalism" (i.e. basing politics on religion) he reached out widely to all religious groups. He became a leader of Muslims protesting the declining status of the Caliphate. Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending untouchability, increasing economic self-reliance, and above all for achieving Swaraj—the independence of India from British domination.

Gandhi led Indians in protesting the national salt tax with the 400 km (250 mi) Dandi Salt March in 1930, and later in demanding the British to immediately Quit India in 1942, during World War II. Just when the British Army were trying to stop the Japanese invasion of India.

He was assassinated on 30 January 1948 by a Hindu nationalist who thought Gandhi was too sympathetic to India's Muslims.

Thanks Rob. Sometimes I do get things rightcheering cheering

I did go searching as I wasn't sure about who did it. Wasn't really paying much attention at the timelaugh

Just that I do recollect him being a very strong activist for Indian rights in South Africa while ignoring the plight of the many other cultures. It did seem a bit odd to me that he was particular who he represented and have looked at it a few times over the years. He ignored the Chinese who had spread all over the world. He ignored the many Negroid races of Africa who suffered as much as any other race in this white-dominated part of the world.

If you look at southern Africa (not just South Africa) you will see a trend where the "white" rule of many European dominance provided stability to those countries. Okay, the Rule was often harsh, and I am not one to say it was the perfect system but history has shown that after the Europeans left, many of these countries have lost so much of their economic incomes and relegated them to very 3rd world countries with little or no foreign income to allow for expansion.

And African boundaries are drawn up on European lines, not tribal lines. So many tribal conflicts have negated any chance of economic expansion to compete on world markets.

These petty tribal fueds of the last hundred of centuries is not restricted to Africa. You only have to look at Yugoslavia after Tito went. And after the collapse of the USSR, even the downfall of the Middle East.

We western and eastern cultures may not be perfect, maybe not even right (according to the belifs of whatever persuasion), but we do look to making our world a better place to live in for everyone.
