Forced contraception

Woman's body does not really belong to herself. It can belong to the State in some cases. Deng Yanqin, mother of a newborn son in Jiangxi Province, discovered this when she was told by the local residential community's administrator that she would not get a hukou, or household registration, for her firstborn unless she placed an intrauterine device (IUD), a contraception ring, inside her womb.

Women's freedom to choose contraception does not seem to matter when it comes to the family planning policy. The policy, which was applied in 1979, restricts urban couples to having one child, while allowing rural couples, ethnic minorities and couples who are both only children themselves to have additional children. It is estimated that the policy has prevented over 400 million births from 1979 to 2011.

US threatens China’s maritime rights, say experts

The US has continuously threatened China's maritime rights in more than 100 years and restricted China with their military alliance, said Major General Wu Guifu, also a former deputy chief of the research department at the National University of Defense Technology, at the forum.

The US rebalance to Asia over the next four years aims to build an island chain starting from Japan, South Korea, crossing China's Taiwan Straits, South China Sea, the Philippines and Singapore, ending in Australia, which is a chain to block China, said Wu.

I agree Rob that the one child policy in China does seem cruel and takes away peoples choices.

This may be a naive view but ......

If the human population continues to grow at the alarming rate it has in the past we will definately out grow our little planet quickly. It is already struggling to support us now.

I saw a video on the Internet, probably taken from a satelite at night traveling around the globe and I was startled at the amount of the globe taken up be civilisation, shown by the mass of lights.

It scared me a bit to be honest!!!!

In early days, girls tended to die at birth while boys managed to overcome the problem. Govt did step in to make sure that the girls did survive, even if the parents were disappointed.

While China has been limiting family sizes, it has also brought new-found wealth for a lot. As they are only-child marrying only-child, they inherit everything from both sets of parents.

And heard recently that India's population has passed China's.

I saw a report that said the entire worlds population could fit into NSW if they were housed in NY apartments? Sorry but this over population thing by the greens is a load off crap! Unless you are willing to see half off the world dieing off starvation then Vote Greens!

One day there will be no boarders! There will be no money and no billionaires! We will all work for the good off the people! We will all have our share to live how we want, with some decent healthcare!

There was a poll again the other day about removing state politicians? Why not remove the federal politicians and have the states form parliament? We could also get rid off councils as they are and introduce an elected member who is in charge off his area, professor

No, a form of government voted in by the people! ATM that is not possible in this world, but in this country we have state politicians doing the same jobs as local government and federal government, and if anything goes wrong they blame the other two? There are 6 states 2 territories so that would make Canberra a waste off space, as it is now!

We need a government that makes things better! We don’t need an opposition that just says NO! too everything!

Frankly, I hate all politicians, equally, but we should not be forced to vote for any off them? As nobody likes any off them? Why should we be forced to vote for people we don’t like? I think they should introduce none off the above on election forms until they can produce someone worth voting for?

At the moment we have a government with less than half our votes in power! The best thing the lib/nat party could do is to kick Abbott out and put Turnbil up as leader,

With Aust being so big, we do need a Federal Govt to try and cover the whole country. Councils are the face-to-face people with the community and work for and with the community. Leaves the State Govts to go. Which they will never agree to.

If we had only one level of Govt, where do you think all the money would go. Half of our population is centred on Melb, Sydney & Brisbane. And contain more whingers,greenies/do-gooding tree huggers than the rest of Aust.

Qld under Jo B-K had a gerrymander system where the country electorates had much small voters than the city electorates, and had an upper house to make sure that crap wasn't shoved through (worked most of the time). Now they have revised electoral boundaries based on population numbers and gotten rid of the Upper House so they can ram through the 'flavour of the day' legislation to keep themselves voted into power.

I believe China has it right one child per family I bet the average chinese family are very loving and caring families. Plus def can afford the best for their kid and in return their kid will take care of them in old age. I have never been there but I can imagine it to be peaceful place to live compared to most places in this world going by the way we the human race breed like flies.

I like the way Singapore look after their beautiful city they are the greenest city I have seen so far but alas it's not enough to save this world from disaster.

Population explosion is out of control I look at my suburb and how fast it was built because so many people coming from around the world and from over east not enough homes to accomadate everyone.

So they chop down more trees to build more homes , rubbish dumps are so full they are bursting and on top of that the local dump where I live soon it will be shut down and guess what!!! they are right now starting a new suburb that will eventually build over the existing rubbish dump , then of course most homes two car families I am guilty of too sad flower sigh hmmm What's that saying "it's easy to be green" but sadly none of us really apply ourselves to it unless you are a greenie dunno I try to be green but I know I am a poor excuse when it's comes to saving our planet , lets face it folks we all have dug our hole and we're in it amongst all the crap stuck hole uh oh help I believe it is too late to fix things now we're stuffed ]sad flower

well i think its getting close to the time and the mop will flop in whatever which way it flops

a report today
The territorial dispute in the East China Sea between the world's second- and third-largest economies entered a disturbing new phase last month with the first direct involvement of military forces. On Dec. 13, Japan sent eight F-15 fighter jets after a small Chinese propeller plane that flew over the disputed Senkaku Islands, called Diaoyu in China. According to Japan, this was the first Chinese intrusion into its airspace since 1958.

Some analysts took them to mean that from January 1, Chinese police would have the right to board and seize foreign vessels anywhere in the South China Sea.

China is offering Pakistan a squadron of J-10B, the advanced multi-role, all-weather fighter aircraft. The official offer was presented to the Pakistan Army’s Chief of General Staff, Lt Gen Waheed Arshad, during a week long visit to Beijing. If such delivery takes place, Pakistan will be the first country, after China, to operate the J-10B, considered as one of China’s most advanced, operational combat aircraft.
