i was driving along minding my own business this morning when this guy pulls out from the curb and hits my car with his bull bar. No damage to him but deep grooves and scratches down three panels on one side of my car.

while exchanging details, turns out he doesn't have insurance. I was suprised at this.

shortly afterwards, at home I was eating my words as I discovered I have overlooked updating my comprehensive insurance and am also uninsured. sigh kicking myself for being so oblivious to my predicament. Thank goodness I wasn't at fault, i thought. Could be worse. doh

I contacted the police Assistance line and was given the following website which deals with, among other things, what to do in a car accident if you are uninsured.

I then decide to head off in search of quotes so i can ring this guy tonight and organise payment etc. i visit three smash repair places in my local area and they are all still on holidays or shut.

frustrated

No joy there either.

I've definately had one of those days where i should have stayed in bed................crying

I hope you are ok?
Check your policy as they do allow an extra month, sometimes! I have my insurance as direct debt each month so I never run out, same with home and contents as well as health insurance, could you imagine the bill if you were at fault?

Yes insurance is at most times an unnecessary expense! But when you need it?

Because I have been a loyal customer for years with no claims! I get discounts! My heath insurance is even sending me a gift? For lack off claims,

comfort angel cheers

Yeah my car insurance is also direct-debited each month, no probs, but I do compare rates each year when it's renewal time thumbs up

Sorry to hear about this LiLee hope it all turns out ok for you, but please keep in mind that the guy responsible for the damage may refuse to pay.

I had a similar incident a few years back where a P-plater side-swiped me - her father was in the vehicle with her and we exchanged details.

From the first time I called their number, whoever answered the phone hung up on me. I was off to the UK a few days after the incident so after trying numerous times I gave up and that was the end of it.

Ex #2 (just before becoming #2) was dropping her daughter off at school (private) one day. Being the 'good' driver she was, she pulled up at the end of the queue and told her daughter to wait until she pulled into the drop-off zone before getting out. The woman in the 4wd in front of her reversed back 1 car length to get out, and slammed into her. No problems, exchange details....call me and we will sort this out.

Then the husband of the offending 4wd driver gets narked and says that Ex#2 should not have been there so no way are they going to pay.frustrated frustrated frustrated So I get on the phone (from Sydney) and blast the crap out of "She's a woman and I can shout." And he says that this is in private property so you can stuff it."

Pushed it through her insurance explaining it was within the grounds of a private school. As this is a 'public access' driveway, insurance would chase it up. Instead of just fixing up the broken headlight (which only was asked for), the recommended insurance repairer (insurance insisted on getting a quote) also noticed the dent just above the headlight, the dent on the bonnet and quoted a fair bit to get it done with the metalic paint. $1,000s instead of $200.yay yay

professor

that’s a little rough? It was an accident! He maybe at fault but he hasn’t reneged as yet on any cost?

If he does we will track him down and set fire to his car! Then we will see if he should think about getting insurance, to pay for his bad driving?

So far so good............got a quote for $1500. The guy answered the phone so he's not done a runner just yet. Sent on the quote so hopefully will see the money soon.
