Alireza711: So when you mention a supreme leader, you are referring to the Ayatollah?
Yes of course Ayatollah khamenei means = supreme leader
the first person on the power in Iran
hope to get ride of him soon

Salaam Aliwave

I guess I agree with Serene, we have elections coming up in Sept. and its going to be messy..

We are completely overwrought with our cost of living... so the first person who wants to make it bearable... gets my vote..

But of course... I dream.. happy place

Yes I was pondering on the situation in Iran and thinking that compared to many people there, and in other countries obviously, we live in the lap of luxury.

This is true, comparatively speaking, but as you are no doubt aware, many people are admitting that they are struggling here these days, just to make ends meet.

It's hard enough for the average worker to pay for housing, utilities, food, transport, fuel, medical costs .. as for those on pensions and other benefits I truly don't know how they survive

We do live in The Lucky Country.

We live where we can say what we like without fear of being locked up.

We live where there is a lot of employment paying us more or less decent wages for what we do.

We have a welfare system that does generally look after us.

We have a form of govt that is likely to be changed every few years and so do their best to buy our votes. Not always good for the country but.......

And all of that is appealing to so many to want to come here to live.

Voting here is compulsory. Voting in many countries is limited to those who want to register due to their political persuasion, religious beliefs, or if they can be bothered to vote.

The old USSR held elections. You had to be a member of the Communist Party to be eligible to vote for the proscribed candidate.

Our last federal election resulted in a minority Govt and saw 3 Independants and the Greens hold sway over the 2 major political parties.

2 weeks ago, I was away and met a lady from Columbia. She told me a lot about her country and how beautiful it was for her. I have heard a lot about the powers within there. I would have liked to have discussed more with her but her beau had other ideas.
