With all the policing of the roads , there seems to be only a small reduction on deaths in Australia per year. So what is the problem? confused

I really believe and so do lots of folks today it is anger management & is everyday norm now too many people too many cars the roads cannot cope with the onsluaught of traffic , usually two to three cars per family these days when you think back to when we were kids one car per family was a luxury to even own one people thought you were rich.

Along with anger management comes drink driving it's just not getting through to people any more real scary especially when we get in our cars and there are angry people out there.

Scary world we are in now and it will only get worse , even the police cannot cope.
uh oh sigh

Gun totting duds manning road blocks didn't stop the VC winning in Vietnam nor will gun totting gunslingers win a war against completely wacko city slickers mindlessly rushing elsewhere to find peace of mind

Yeah, too many hotheads, they want to get there by yesterday, instead of leaving a bit earlier, and all the p platers, well, they think they are the best drivers on the road.scold

every few miles highways in Victoria got signs with similar words to the effect your gunner go to sleep, your gunner go to sleep, your gunner go to sleep, your gunner go to sleep, your gunner go to sleep...
Just recently (first time this year i left the mountain) i noticed 5 signs that since have been told cost $850,000 each, that tell you the distant to next town take a break, which is ok, but makes me wonder what sort of clown dreamed that up

Morning Kristia Sometimes I get in my Ute more so than my car which I use for just getting about town shopping etc! In my Ute I go off to work people seem to be less tolerant of tradies on the road than cars or is it my imagination confused

Put it this way I think more about accidents in my Ute than when I am out & about in my car maybe because I tend to be in peak hr traffic in my Ute dunno

The cost of the the big directional signs is about $850 each, and the way the contractors charge, it is about $300 just for those normal diamond shape warning signs.

I work in road safety so hear all the time about "stopping the road toll." The shire I work in has had 3 fatalities in the last 6 months (after having zero for over 12 months). 2 were motor cyclists, 1 watching the scenery too much and ran off onto the gravel and lost control with the other trying to see how fast he could go around a bend. The car driver that was killed had taken off and managed to kill himself 200m down the perfectly straight road.

And after hearing for years about how bad city drivers are in the country, it turns out that most country deaths are by locals "who know the road."

And with all the safety improvements in cars these days, too many people believe their car is so safe they can take more chances.

Bring back the RED flag road rule

Well if there is a reduction while at the same time the number of cars on the road increases and the number of kilometers each car travels on average each year increases then Hans and Wash must be doing something right. (Oh and all the other road traffic engineers and the cops.)

no they got 5 big steel pillars (each would hold up a bridge) supporting neon blinking suspended signs that stretch right across a whole lane, massive blinking signs; one reminds you not to pass on double lines, the other four tell you your twenty minutes from next town take a break...

A lot of the problem is still speed and people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol ..Also driving tired is another main factor another is mobile phones txting .. or just reading a txt or reaching for that phone is a death warrant while the car is moving ..not just for the driver but for any other person around them

I am a paramedic here in Australia and its so sad to see all this happen

I have been hit personally as i lost my 19 yr old daughter to a car crash, she had done a twelve out night shift and was driving home it was winter she put the heater on in the car ... she fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tree, she died instantly i will never recover from that loss
There are so many parents going through the same tragic loss of a child

People need to realize getting into that car is a risk and they need think before they start that engine

Drive safe everyone
