Recently my house was connected to Broadband. Before that I could only get wireless internet. It was okay but only had 8gb download and kept going over. So was pleased to see I could get 50gb download for $50 a month. Was told I could bundle my home phone and broadband for $100 and get 100gb download. On further questioning was told separately - $50 for home phone line rental and $50 for the broadband it would be the same price but the advantage of the bundle was 50gb more download. Hmmm didn't seem a big deal seeing as I have been getting by okay with only 8gb.

So I asks the question "seeing I very rarely use my home phone and the only ppl to ring the land line are telemarketers," (friends call my mobile) can I turn off my home phone and save $50 on landline rental?"

Answer "Nooooo, you need the landline rental for broadband."

So it seems I pay $50 for a landline so I can pay another $50 for broadband!!!!!

Just another satisfied screwed customer. wave

The answer is stop being a mug! There are plenty of web sites that will find you a better deal, I don’t pay line rentals! I pay $70 per month for high speed internet more than 50gb at no extra cost for going over limit just slowdown in speed, as yet the kid and I have not used what we are allowed.

Yes Telstra did try it on me! Bad move!
They quoted $50 to transfer my connection, they then tried to charge me $450.00 for a technician? At the time I was on a $110.00 per month deal, that was due to end, iinet was offering the $70 deal free line rental and a new phone, with wireless connection?

Long story made short! My contract with Telstra ends in October, that’s when I will shop around again for a better deal! I am getting sick of companies taking people for granted!
professor cheers

Just checked with Telstra, who I have always been with, and they state I have never had 80 gigs, started with 2 ten yrs ago, and increased to 4 three yrs later, and now on 8, which is cheaper than the original 2 gigs.
My life and quite a few others depend on my memory and facts with no mistakes. No hooch smoking or grog, to impair my brain cells, what about yours?

Why don't you check out Aanet, Exetel, Internode and alike deals? You get much better deals from them. I pay $60 for 100GB peak + 100GB off-peak, line rental and 4000 minutes a month land line calls in Australia with Exetel.

Was considering what seemed a very good deal offered by Optus for "Over 55's" not so long ago. Until my daughter told me about all the "catches" with that. It did look good at the time.....but there are a lot of catches that are not that obvious.

I am with Telstra and have used them all my telco life. Nearly always had ecent connectivity with the internet.

BUT..............while having some problems last year, they did alter my servicing arrangements because I have an old (meaning more than 3 months) arrangements and only had 2 gig of downloads. They upped the service to 4 gig, but it is not what I am really getting. Half the problem now as the internet now has the ISP account holder charging Telstra and they are passing on the usage charger.

Good example is when RobP loads all of his fantastic photos on, and I get charged for every view. Sorry, Rob, I do now have to limit what I am seeing to what is actually shown and not the whole picture (same for everyone else until I do the End of Comp downloads).

I was reading not so long ago about the NBN faster downloads and how much "ALL Australians" will benefit and will be able to download so much stuff.

And then the bit about future charges for downloads. The ISP providers will be setting their charges which will then be passed on to the account holder via the telco they have selected. And as more people come on-line, the service will slow.

So Blacktown NSW and Prospect SA will be getting very quick service today through NBN (are they doubtful Laboring seats?), there is no guarantee of keeping the level of service they have today and promising for the future.

All I say is "shop around" there are great deals in the telco marketplace these days, and don't be afraid to barter and bargain for a better deal.

For example I have an international mobile to mobile phone plan that costs virtually nothing - that's right - virtually nothing to phone mobile to mobile internationally. I use it to stay in touch with someone very close to me in China.

My mobile phone plan is cheap each month as well, and includes all phone calls (unlimited time, unlimited number) to any phone (landline or mobile) anywhere in Australia, as well as unlimited txt messaging, and internet data - all for just $45.00 each month - oh and they throw in a new phone (I got a samsung galaxy this time) for nix.

Data is also cheap. So don't be duped. You can get really good deals these days. You just have to do your homework and bargain a bit.

I've never had Chinese torture but could imagine it's a similar feeling to the three hour phone conversation I had with Telstra tonight. doh

I spoke to six different people, all from another nationality, and had to repeat my details, numbers and problem to each new one from the beginning. I must win the record for having my identity verified the most times in 3 hours tonight. yay

Unfortunately that's the only function they seemed to accomplish successfully. lol, I actually thumped my own forehead when the sixth person sounded remarkably like the first person.

OMG......it was truly the most excruciating experience I have ever had on the phone. They even put Centrelink to shame. crying

Thanks for the tips rob and everyone that has offered me advice. I really appreciate your suggestions, but you know how it feels when you have invested time and energy into something , you want to see it through. Call me crazy or stubborn but I want to get this resolved with them and just can't face looking at other options atm. hug

you didn't say whether you have just entered a new contract or is one outside the cooling off period
you may be stuck with it or you may be able to back out, if not likely you need to find out if there is a breaking contract value
