Today it occurred to me that my lifestyle, what with my vegetarianism growing out of a decision to forgo consuming meat, chicken and fish some years ago leading to an ethical approach regarding animals in general, plus my fascination with and grassroots travels to Asian countries probably situates me in almost a Buddhist approach to life conversing

I was raised as a Roman Catholic and that indoctrination surely left its mark on me, just like the sky is blue and the grass green.

It was an enlightening moment to accept where my life has taken me, I shun commercialism and prefer to appreciate the earth and its beauty and somehow have found peace and tranquility along the way.

I wonder can my beliefs sit alongside each other grin

Not sure what you're asking two Popes ago John Paul II (1978-2005) after a number of discussions with HHLD proclaimed to the faithful believers that Buddhism and the Catholic teachings were not compatible
personally i agree, they are incompatible

My Word Spell program explains Buddhism as:
The teaching of Buddha that life is permeated with suffering caused by desire, that suffering ceases when desire ceases, and that enlightenment obtained through right conduct and wisdom and meditation releases one from desire and suffering and rebirth
end paste and copy

Buddha did not teach an "ism" to the contrary Buddhist thought is a philosophy it is not a religion, a school of thought that those practicing try to comprehend and utilize to the best of their ability wise advice from qualified guides, advice a bit like tools to assist passage over paths fought with much danger.
Buddhist study the nature of suffering the path; benefiting others

Sure you can, Im an atheist who lives by may of the old religious values. Religion is a way of life, it is also cultural. Believing in god is entirely a different matter for me.

I agree, and I think you can take what you like from any culture and religion to use what suits you. I don't think we need to pigeonhole ourselves into one belief system and I think if more people did this instead of conforming to structured belief systems we would be far more balanced within ourselves.

It takes time...eventually I've become an athiest...the most sensible thing I've done. I'm really become interested in it and reading up as much as I can...especially evolution and archeology.

Evolution and archeology.

Is the Bible the way?

Is the Koran the way?

Who has it right?

What about the Scientologists and their beliefs?

What you believe in is the most important thing to you.

Confusionism, Markism, Socialism and Bhuddism are phylosohies (that doesn't look right).

What is most important is that we do have a belief. How we use that belief is up to us as an individual.

Serene, like many other people, has gone vegeterian. Her choice. Personally, I do have some meat most nights.

We all make our own choices in life. It may be that we shun alcohol, tobacco or drugs. We alone make that choice.
