Saw the live footage of the truck accident on the Bolte Bridge this morning. I heard the guy was rushed to hospital. Is he okay? Was a pretty precarious position for the truck to stop in and they said the guy hit a light and broke his fall on the 15 metre drop over the edge. wow

Talking with my son-in-law at 9am about him talking my 4wd and trailer to move his sister out of the city today. Seemed that so many roads were gridlocked because of that one road closure.

It does show how fragile our road network really is. A single crash on one road impacts on so many others.

A large part of my working life has been related to road safety. Being an engineer, there has been a lot of expectations that engineers will fix ALL road problems.

But a lot is really related to how people drive to the conditions. I have not seen any footage nor had any information regarding how this has happened on a clear 3 lane stretch of roadway seperated from oncoming traffic.

Somebody has done something to start the chain of events resulting in this crash. And probably was 5/10 vehicles ahead and is not aware that their action of changing lanes/braking suddenly (supposition here) caused something to happen a few seconds later behind them.

Probably watching the news tonight saying "I was so close to that happening. Glad I was not involved."

Witnesses reported it was caused by a car swerving in front of the truck.
I was heading into Melbourne on the Hume and happened to switch on the radio. Heard the Bolte bridge was still closed and I'd intended to go that way. Luckily still time to take the Ring road and the Eastern Fwy.
The driver is still in critical condition and "fighting for his life."

.

yep Lookin the Gabster is secured well, and the securing method has passed the huge bump test. Hit the bump, looked in the mirror and couldnt see the bag she travels in.... found her hanging over the back of the scoot, bewidered and bemused as she went for a flight to get there but still secured to the scoot.

I hope never to end up smeared over the bitumen and am aware that each time I go out it could happen.
