How to be happy in love (59)

Jul 8, 2013 3:50 AM CST How to be happy in love
Been reading some Proust (via Alain de Botton teddybear)

Have loosely translated and would like your thoughts re:

Can love last forever heart1

'Well no, but the limits to eternity don't lie specifically with love.

They lay in the general difficulty of maintaining an appreciative relationship with anyone that is always around.'

So is it possible that the longing is the best part and that feeling could wear off within 15 minutes of being with that person giggle

Does familiarity breed contempt? wow

It is not familiarity that necessarily breeds contempt. I believe it is lust and the lack of being content and satisfied with what one has in life, in love, and in relationships that lead to contempt. It is the comparing of one with another. It is the unfulfilled desire and the mind dwelling on this lust that leads to contempt.

In the saying of an ancient letter:

"Whenever people are jealous or selfish, they cause trouble and do all sorts of cruel things. But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere. When peacemakers plant seeds of peace, they will harvest justice......"

"... Where do all the fights and quarrels among you come from? They come from your desires for pleasure, which are constantly fighting within you. You want things, but you cannot have them, so you are ready to kill; you strongly desire things, but you cannot get them, so you quarrel and fight."

Hi Serene..wave

I have not read what you are reading, but clearly it has made you wonder..?

I think its different for everyone..

I don't agree that longing is the best part... not at all..

You can spend your whole life longing for the $ jackpot.. and if it came.. you would not be displeased.. grin

For me... I prefer to have the person with me...

and if he is not there... well, I think.. I have managed so far without him, so I can continue... grin

But I am a very practical person... and strange in a way... doh

I feel this is possibly from an ancient Asiatic script wine

And I agree with it, it sits nicely with a Buddhist outlook on life confused

Hi Merri,

If one has what you have, then you have contentment. And this refusal to "go there" keeps your heart in peace. This is a teaching from ancient times that has automatic outcomes, as you experience them. It is a simple philosophy and law of nature.

Most of nature is in harmony, is at peace. Mankind however has to disrupt this peace.

How infantile of our politicians and war mongers, who could feed the whole world for a whole year with the money that they spend in just 8 days on the military.

Peace is cheaper than war, but then people (especially politicians and CEOs) are prepared to pay very high prices for their lust and discontent.
