Wish I had known this was happening.

Mananged to be off Sydney when the First Fleet reanactment was happening.

It is something great to see these ships sailing in.

Wash they are in Williamstown until Ships leave Williamstown approx 10am, Saturday 14 Sept for Capel Sound to anchor around midday. Paella evening event at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron that night.

View the ships leaving Capel Sound (off Blairgowrie) from around 8.30am on Sunday 15th September.

The Enterprize does do evening sails and other short trips during summer, November it leaves Melbourne to Port Welshpool via either the Bass Strait islands or the Prom depending on the weather

The fleet preparing to sail
and yes that was the weather to come behind the fleet, cold wet and choppy. Stayed that way all the time we were under motor getting out to the sailing point out opposite Point Cook. Then the sun came out!

fine line between saluting and sinking by the looks . There is a trust that has a boat here similar to those that takes school kids on excursions , short one first and then are offered a longer trip if they fitted "in" .

only gunpowder and wadding in the hole, no shot allowed.

There are Training Vessels based in most states here in Australia.
Enterprize in Victoria, there maybe others as well. Windward Bound in Hobart Tasmania, Leeuwin In WA, Soren Larsen in Sydney and others I think. Not sure of South Aust if the One and All is still doing this. And Not sure of Queensland. There is also the Young Endeavour but I am not sure where she is based

It would be great for teenagers to experience something like this.

As a side note the Lord Nelson is a sail training vessel with a difference. She is setup for people in wheelchairs and people with disabilities. So they all get a chance to hoist sails and help with the running of the ship as most have the upper body strength to pull them selves up the rigging

Hmmm, how did they "motor out" before motors?

They would have sailed, but the smaller vessels in the fleet would have taken all day to get to where we needed to be.

The Enterprize takes 7 hours to get from Port to the heads, Europa would do the same in probably 2 hours, maybe less

Most of the ships used motors to get out of Williamstown, but ones like the Europa then hauled sail and just tacked to get where they needed to be. Europa has 14 paid professional sailors on board, plus passengers.
She was always under full sail for the day and it was a magnificent sight
