It's a cheap shot at those who can least afford it Nature. Seems they have smokers over a barrel. I would much rather see them put the equivalent of the money they would make with the tax into helping those who are addicted to kick the habit.

But then it's a money making exercise with not much to do with helping those people.

From what I saw on the TV, it seems those who are already well off will benefit the most. doh

But what else did we expect from the Liberals. blues

Hi Lilee,

Yer it's not about helping people with the addiction,it's about money,
What gets on my goat is alcohol does so much damage to a lot of people, domestic violence, car accidents, drunken brawls,so on,and yet they still advertise it on t.v.
Just doesnt add up.

It's what's seen as being socially acceptable. 40 years ago or more smoking was accepted and seen as glamorous in the movies etc. But has fallen out of favour in the last few decades. We do now know it's bad for our health and those around us but being a previous smoker myself, I know how strong the addiction is and sympathise with those who are being made to pay dearly for their addiction.

Alcohol is just as damaging a drug but watching the coverage of the Melbourne cup recently, it was held up there with the holy grail as cocktails were being showcased and everyone appeared to revel in the fact that it was a day long drinking binge and to be celebrated.

As a mother of three sons in their 20's, I can honestly say alcohol caused more angst in my family in the last decade than I could have possibly imagined. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a drink with the best of them but in moderation and that's cause I'm old and wiser. Our young people are not so lucky.

It seems it's our young peoples right of passage into adulthood and more often than not causes a variety of dramas and accidents that we could all do well without.

There is a bit of Federal Legislation that puts up the Excise Tax on cigarettes and alcohol every 6 months. 15 years ago, I could buy a carton of beer for $20. Now it is normal retail price of $50 for the general brands. The liquor producers are cutting their profit margins to stay in the market. Tobacco companies have many addicts who will pay the price.

I looked at some of the give up smoking courses, did a free Quit "Talk you through why" program. If the Govt was serious, they would subsidise the affective programs. My daughter and her husband went to a hypnotherapist 1 year ago this week. Cost them $150 each. And yes, still not smoking.

But many people are "scared" that it doesn't work because so many people have tried it and are out there telling people it is a waste of money. And many people, like me, use it like a crutch.

The point I am making is why just pick on the cigs when alcohol does just as much damage, yet it is still advertised.

Lilee,re- Melbourne cup, drunken people on the ground asleep, and every one thinks its funny,
And the schoolies they have on the Gold Coast, what a disgrace, they are just giving young ones the right to say yes it's schoolies. Go for it,

1.7 gb 25 minutes laugh no wonder it did not load . It got to 15% on u-tube . I can't cut it as I put a hole in the screen of my camera making it . Just showing black and will have to be replaced . Some quite good footage of the roller doing its stuff at speed as I can now stop the roller when I want because I changed the winchbrake to a wet one so to be able to cool it . Tried wet brake oil first , waste of time as there was no grip . Kerosene works just fine but has a lot lower flash point , things might get a bit iffy as this gets so hot its starts sticks when it was dry . Roller has to be doing 30 k plus when I let it go . The noise is fantastic over the speakers .

with the video i made i found Picasa best program, others i tried to bloody complicated for me.

By using its video editing found was easy to "Export" picasa then make another copy, if necessary made few of them that still left original file as did the others exported (you can export a few times without really adversely impacting on the video quality) anyway then i changed the start and end of clips extracting the best parts. When your done doing that then select the files with the bits you really want to keep and get Picasa to restitch them all together into one video. Then export and see what size your left with
