Just when you think you have seen enough scammers to last a life time ......

Got a car up for sale on the net, couple of sites, only on one day, get a message "What's your best price" email me at ......

Replied - "Mate, first day up for sale, get back to you in a month if not sold?"

He said "Ok, if you think that is a fair price, ok, I will pay by paypal, send me you paypal details, or I can do a direct bank transfer" cool

Hello, do you think I came down in the last shower? thumbs down

Had about 5 similar messages in a couple of days, just deleting them now very mad

Anybody else come across this? I talked with my son, he confirmed what I was thinking, not sure exactly how they work it, but they pick up the car and then somehow cancel the payment?? very mad

Apart from anything else, how many people buy a second hand car without even seeing it? Doh! head banger

Matter of seeing the cash in the bank before handing over the keys.

Kids have a "Credit Card from Woolies" for internet transfers. Stops the scammers getting access.

wave No one should buy a used car without seeing it. If they
would like to own it. Deposit will be min $500, to cover your
expenses etc. Then certified funds on delivery.

wait until the money is in the account, then release the car. once in your account they can't "cancel" it or withdrawn the money (unless you give them authority to do so) ask for cash (if it's not a large amount) perhaps your son could help you with the sale, or a male friend?

no, though paypal is a bank, and owns eBay the answer is no you don't need deposits in paypal, paypal processes payments between you and buyer/seller bank account, Westpac, Commonwealth NB whatever...
if they gain get access to your paypal account information they may then access your credit card account etc

Newlife have nothing to do with them

Thanks for the advice Rob and everyone. Be sure, I won't be handing over any keys until the money is safely in my account.

Sent one of them an email saying I would only accept cash or a bank cheque, didn't hear from him again scold

be careful with bank cheques, I know people who have been caught with stolen ones (blank ones, taken during armed hold ups) cash or bank transfer into your account is best imo

My daughter was selling her Ford Focus in the late 90s before she went OS. Advertised it for $1,000. Guy came around, looked at it quickly and then offered her much less because "the timing belt needs replacing, wheels need balancing, and the frontend needs realignment."

Top mekanick dude doh Spotted that without opening the bonnet or looking underneath. She politely told him that she had just had a full service done 2 weeks before, including wheel alignment, wheel balancing and new timing belt.

And then said "Yes, I am quite willing to you consider a new offer for this car. How about $1,200 after all that work has been done already?"
