Had a phone call today from a friend in Adelaide who I haven't spoken to for some time, let alone seen for 5 years. We still exchange Xmas cards each year.

I got to meet Mr & Mrs C (one of those horrible Polish names) when she worked with ex#1 way back in 1975. I am godfather to their twin daughters and they moved from Sydney to Adelaide back in the early 80s. And Mrs C & I have kept in contact all of those years (yeah, she puts Mr C on sometimes). Oddly enough, she hasn't heard from ex#1 for something like 20+ years while I been over and stayed a few times.

And it got me thinking about "old" friends.

2 January this year and I got together with 5 guys I started high school 50 years ago. 3 of them were from the band that performed on occasion at school 'functions.' The one guy I couldn't really remember was the lead guitarist at the time. He went on to be the lead guitarist for LRB and now owns all the rights to LRB, and living in Ireland.

In 1973 I worked for the Maritime Services Board of NSW on the water. In 1998 I went away for a long weekend with a couple of guys from work and another 2 guys were away with us. 2nd day out, sitting around the campfire and I realised I had worked with one at the MSB. 2008 and we caught up again at William Creek Hotel in SA - middle of nowhere. He was travelling with my mate that I spend a lot of time with in the outback. They have been very good mates over the years. I have just spent 10 days away with him recently, him travelling with my mate so he could get back to Sydney. Good reminiscing about some of the characters we worked with.

Have others had these sort of renewed contacts after many years?

No, but what you've done sounds fantastic Wash cheers

Must be a blow out catching up with people from so many years ago and I'm sure it helps that you've retired now and can spend time doing all the meaningful and fulfilling things that you've been doing thumbs up

Good on you grin

I've reconnected with a number of people from my youth on facebook but have yet to reconnect face to face. Missed my Year 10 30 years reunion last year crying

but that what happens when you move away from your hometown dunno

My dad still hangs out with his childhood buddies. I think it would be a great thing to keep those lifelong friendships alive thumbs up

My mum played hockey as a young girl and they had a hockey reunion each year. I think mum and her life-long friend (Aunt Joan who married the guy who wrote the Vegemite song) were about 80 when they were the last 2 remaining.

ex#1 worked with a girl (same firm as the one I got the call from) whose father went to school with my mum. Hadn't seen each other for 40 years. She also worked with a girl I went to school with.
