Anybody been following this trial in South Africa?

He is the 'Blade Runner' Paralympian who is accused of shooting his girlfriend and killing her in the bathroom of his home.

He says he thought she was an intruder. barf

I stumbled onto the live link on the bbc website and I can't keep off it!

The Prosecutor for the State Geri Nel is brilliant, he is picking holes in his statements and evidence constantly and accusing Oscar of changing his 'version'. Oscar is never shown on video but the whole courtroom is, including his and her families. It is fascinating to see how they are putting a case against him.

For anybody interested the trial is live in Aust time at 5.30 pm to about 11 pm with breaks.

I know, sad innit, I need to get a life!

Yes I stumbled on that live broadcast the other day too.

I found it a little hard to take and wonder at the 'merits' of presenting something as important(to all those closely connected with this case) as this on television.

In a world where renovating a bathroom or cooking a stirfry is seen as meaningful viewing.

...Well,in my opinion,he has committed a premeditated - murder ! Therefore,he should be sentenced to death,by the firing-squad n they should use not only conventional-lethal weapon but also his gun,he used to commit that atrocious crime !
It appear that he just fabricated his defense, that he "thought" a "burglar" hiding in a toilet. Why he didn't call police for assistance ? But Instead he fired 4 shots through the closet door ! B/c he knew who's inside, namely; His "loving" partner !
He should be put to the world, as an example ; Do NOT kill for greed !!
God bless his soul.

Well I for one don't find court cases fascinating or riveting having been through the process myself (court).

More often than not truth and fiction are interpretable.

Oscar is really playing the self-pity card because he is now being held to account for his actions.

Oh he thought is was an intruder. So shoot first and worry about the intruder later. Anybody having a gun pointed at them are not going to keep on intruding. They will be wetting themselves thinking that they might be shot.

Come on, get a real life. There are far better things to be watching and getting rivetted in than television or court cases.

There are so many wonderful stories and causes to take ones time.

It is just a matter of choice.

Well it has certainly caught the world's imagination. Maybe because he is a 'famous' athlete with a glamorous girlfriend. maybe because people think "how could you shoot your gf in your own house and mistake her for an intruder?" (He didn't even ask 'the person/s' to identify themselves before he shot her?

Who knows ......

By the way I do have certain causes that are dear to my heart that I support and give a lot of time too, I don't like 'reality TV' ie. cooking shows, home renos etc.

But I am interested in domestic violence cases and in particular how a man can profess to love a woman yet behave so badly - and to me this is another case of an obsessive, controlling, jealous individual who took the life of the person he professed to 'love' - by accident.

I wanted to know how he could justify that? And as has been said before and anyone who heard his evidence - it is highly improbable that he didn't know that she was in the toilet, not an intruder when he shot 4 bullets in the door?

I feel desperartely for her family who had their daughter taken away from them - as has happened many times before?

I do agree with you. This is a guy without feet normally attached who manages to get all the way to the bathroom, fire 4 shots and then gets back to the phone before thinking about his "loving" partner's safety.

Having been with someone with one prosthesic limb (let alone 2), it does take time to get them on.

Surely when he woke he would notice if he's partner was not in bed with him unless they sleep separate. I would think it would be instinct to view or feel that your partner was in bed or not. Especially when you would have to take time to put your legs on. confused

wash2u: Which is why a lot of SA's (South Africans) are getting out of the country. There is even an exemption from the law where you can run red lights if you feel you are being threatened, not attacked, feel threatened. Part of Oscar's defence for what he did.
Nothing is making western media about whats really going on . I watched a U-Tube clip showing a gun battle which the police withdrew because of the force against them . Mainstream media are sidelining themselves slowly but surely as most youngins don't follow the news at six or any other bloody time .

I guess some of the white farmers are getting a dose of their own medicine. Lest we forget the mistreatment of black people for lots of years. Yet a lot of them still don't get it.
