Emergency Department said after a few tests I had just had a massive heart attack (based on the heart-secreted enzymes in my blood) and it was good that I had gotten there so quick - they thought it was that day until I said that this was the best I felt since last Friday. One thing and another, Thursday I had an angiogram (they were worried that my pulse rate was 37 per minute) and they found a blocked artery. Took 2 stents being inserted to open it up again and blood to flow again. And then another 3 days for things to improve back to "normal" with a pulse rate of 60 per minute.
My brother (older by 2 years) had an heart attack 2 years ago this month and so I have had a couple of tests since when I have had chest pains (all clear). Everyone I know who has had an heart attack has told me about "severe chest pain and numb left arm/fingers." I didn't have either. The doctors have said that I was very lucky to survive.
After spending a week in hospital, I have learnt that not all heart attacks involve sharp pains in the chest, in fact they can be very mild or no pain at all. Mine felt just like my arm resting across my chest.
Home yesterday and had the best sleep I have had in many months. And now very much aware that I will be going to the doctors every time I have a sniffle (not quite) instead of thinking I will be "over the flu by tomorrow."
