In today's technology many relationships are formed on line. Being that you can't physically see each other most of the time unless you're sky ping or web camming, which form of communicating is best and which is worst. Messaging, texting, or talking on the phones. Why?

Hi ah Theresa4tgl
relationships that are formed online work fine as a friend only ...
and within those boundaries... you can have a lot of laughs, and banter, without the pressure..

so much easier...
Hi Merriweather! I can't totally agree with that. My daughter met her husband on line just over 14 yrs ago. They've been successfully married almost 10 years now. One thing I do know though, they were friends for a long time before they became an internet item

Oh.. that is just lovely to hear..
and prolly lots of luck in that story too...
but yes... you need to know someone really quite well.. for a heck of a long time first, and even then , its maybe or not..
I think the forums provide a pretty good medium for people to form views on the thinking of others, then messaging or email with those you want to communicate further with. Chat and Skype should only be used with people that you get along with, do business with and you believe operates pretty secure computer. They are certainly not the type of technology that detected dishonest or the un-trusted should be given access to.

Very true robplum. Actually the only way to detect honesty and trust is when a person speaks they do as they speak. But the best way....is that they don't speak and just do. Actions speak loud and clear...

I think talking on the phone is best Theresa
It's more personal.
Text messaging or messaging in general can be misconstrued and taken out of context, particularly humour

Always have to physically see each other. A real relationship doesn't form otherwise. Instead, a fantasy is formed. This sort of thing will never last unless the couple end up physically being able to date / see each other.
Webcaming is a temporary stop gap, but messaging, texting and phones should have their rightful place as part of the communication repertoire, but not the principal communication mediums in a LDR.
Why, because I have successfully maintained a couple of LDRs. In fact my wife is the result of an LDR that started here on CS.

Girl...you are SO right. Especially when it's international and you're not used to the dialect and the humor. I do well with blending in verbally after I can sit back and listen....but that texting and msging can be a mess.
I especially have that difficulty because of a job I had for years deals ng with corporate businesses. I have this habit of being very direct...short...and to the point...lol. when you hear the voice fluxuations its WAY WAY WAY different and not to mention much more perspnal.
