All I can say is what I've seen myself !
We have in Adelaide large walk in GP clinics . You guys in Melbourne may have them as well .
The clinics u walk in see any GP. These while I think they have your best interests do feather their own nests they work for big companies . I in the past was given free samples of certain
drugs just to get me started on the brand they were pushing .
When I had my big issue with high BP the GP refused to send me to a public hospital
Instead referred me to a big cardiologist practice first visit cost me $$$$$ big time . After that I complained and was bulk billed . Of course when I needed a diabetic doctor I was referred by the heart doctor to a different specialist who I convinced to bulk bill. His receptionist was not happy with that .
Now I pay to see a GP get much better treatment . And if I need a script for current medications all I have to do is call up and I'm told when it will be ready to be collected . At the big walkin clinic you have to wait and see a GP who then bills the govt .

I hope that makes sense

I will add you can wait many hours to see a GP in the large walkin clinic .
Twice I called in to get scripts twice I was told 50 people ahead of you so I left .
And this mob were against generic meds I had lecture after lecture from the doctors .
And I know chemists make more money off of genric brands than name brands . Those who know me know who I work for .

nah , don't think so , I had a serious issue 4 weeks back , short lived issue , thank all Gods . Anyways got a letter from the clinic to have a free blood test before attending a free check over for any issues mainly heart disease . Little bit of prevention . Cheaper for Aussies to fly over for medical work . Not being Wiki being enrolled in our PHO system would cost a little more for DR's visits . Spending time in a DR's waiting room is frightful , full of bloody sick people so should be avoided .

Way back many years ago before AFL hit Sydeney, doctors worked Mon-Fri and Sat morning only....otherwise go to the hospital to get your tissues and aspirin.

Dr G E (and his lovely assistant) introduced 7 days a week doctor attention through private practises. And sponsored South Melbourne Football Club to move to Sydeney and have very tight red shorts when they played.

In 1970, my parents, my brother, my sister and myself paid out every week for private health insurance and got back 80% of any of our doctors bills.

In 1974, a PM introduced "FREE Medical for every Australians" because a small percentage "did not have Private Health Insurance coverage." Okay, it was to be an additional 1.5% on top of our Income Tax each year "up to a limit of $650 per annum per taxpayer."

Under the leadership of our great beer-drinking PM and the self-appointed World's Greatest Treasurer (and later PM) it was raised to 2% with no upper limit. I do recall my father telling me about the time that Income Taxes became a Federal responsibilty instead of State responsibilty. Before that time, he was paying 1% towards his Old Age Pension as well as a bit towards his medical expenses if he earnt less than a certain amount or his family expenses exceeded some limit.

Yes, my grandmother was one of those not having any Private Health Insurance coverage even though her 1st husband had been a participant in one of those schemes, and my family members were contributing privately during the 60s & 70s. Mainly because of the aid that that Society had given to "our" family during some hard times.

BUT, Grandma was covered by the Federal Govt because she was 1. War Widow & 2. OLD. 1974 resulted in me personaly (and my family members) paying more each year for medical treatment than when it "was not free."

In Germany you can not only pick your GP, but a lot of other doctor's as well (not in Ireland, a lot of the specialized doctor's are based in a hospital).

I did change some doctors until I was happy with them. I met some very good doctors who are genuinely concerned about their patients and do their best. If I have the feeling it's different, I wouldn't go back there. conversing

You just sometimes need a doctor, not going isn't an option. dunno

milking goats not a bad idea , eat any thing and not to big to handle . Going by the Stinking Billy Goat (rip) not hard to catch , more so in winter as the bloody thing would be inside in a flash if the door was left open . Cost me a lot of cornthins to bribe him to go out side . I have read where Aussie cattle stations use them for milk as well . Guess goats are not affected by 10 year droughts .
