Bushfires have hit again with Adelaide Hills having some massive blazes during hot windy weather. I know NSW Rural Fire Service have a number of crews assisting while Victoria is battling a few blazes around the State, especially up near the Grampians.

I have caught the ABC noon news the last 2 days on the fires with a very young reporter on the scene (I do have images of the "Jimmy Olsens" of the reporting world being sent out to danger zones while the Murdochs & Packers sit back in air-conditioned comfort). I digress, as usual.

The cub reporter was out there describing the difficulties the farmers were having personally (power lines are down and they have to "survive on sandwiches sent in which do not stay fresh as we do not have a generator for our fridge")and with trying to get livestock out of there due to road closures in hazardous areas.

I think that what really got me was when the farmer being interviewed regarding all of his hardships was when he complained that he had to hand-feed all of his cattle and he could not get them trucked out.

All 12 of them.

No No No... scold

People that are attracted to fire lighting are sick... I mean, unwell mentally...

I don't think they need to be burnt alive... cripes, that is terrible, but I also think they need medical help as well as some other kind of lawful punishment... sigh

I do enjoy sitting around a camp fire looking into the fire/glowing embers.

I do believe that people should take responsiblity for their actions rather than try to pass it on to someone else. "My parent/s accidently burnt me with a match/cigarette when I was not cognisant of what I could claim financially."

Hi ah Wash, wave

I have to agree that I used to like camping and having a camp fire... but hey, that was a long while ago..

I get that you need to take responsibility...

But I think that some people just don't realize the consequences of their actions...

and some are more than attracted to fires on a hot day... I have no idea why, but it happens.. conversing

If they are mentally unwell, why then do you suggest punishing them ?? ...

some people just get off on lighting fires, look at the volunteer fire fighter some years back, he was lighting fires so as he could be a hero and put them out ...

We all know the risks of fire season and the madness of some people, I am at a loss at to why so much undergrowth is allowed to build up in high risk areas ...

Well I suppose I do know its the greenies and the nature lovers that object to frequent burn offs versus protecting some lizards and spiders .. to the human loss if a fire does take hold ...

Solid fire plans are the answer and if this cannot be assured then alternate evacuation plans are a must in the high risk areas ...

I hope no more lives are lost in the wake of these fires, though sadly this will not be the case ... cool

It gets pretty hot over here sometime and things like hay bales self combust and catch alight, so you can't always assume that it maybe deliberate.

It only takes a spark in this summer heat and thats enough to trigger anything.

During the Vic Black Saturday fires, fire fighters were putting out small grass fires alongside a highway. And there were a lot springing up along that highway. They would put one out and a few minutes down the road they were attending another. A couple of houses were lost as well.

Turns out that someone was throwing firelighters out the car window.
