It occurred to me this morning, while trying to clean up round one side of the house, that so much that I have bought in the past was a waste..

It all seemed a good idea and must have at the time, but now, all I can think of, is how to get rid of these items..

I am talking garden stuff, but in general, can be any stuff.

Then I got to thinking around how much stuff over my lifetime I have bought, and thrown out.. doh

What a waste it all seems now.. sigh

anyone else feel the same way?

and the worst of it all, I keep looking for things to throw out...

By nature, I am not a hoarder , and I do tend to have zero tolerance for things that sit about.. and even so, I can quietly reflect that I have bought and thrown way too much stuff in the past.

doh

I actually don't as I do think about what I need and what I buy - and I'm mad at myself if I buy stuff I don't need. dunno

Not having an abundance of money to buy everything might help the cause. laugh

Sometimes I have felt this way, but then I realised that what I bought had a purpose, and once that purpose has finished, I kept if for a good while, then got rid of it.

Some things just wore out because of cheap and nasty manufacture. I reckon I've burned through about 20 computers in my time. A lot of money when one thinks about it.

I would really like to find some nice Hemp clothing because that stuff lasts, unlike the cheap cotton come plastic clothing one finds in most shops these days.

Yes it may seem a waste, but if it served a purpose for a time, and the purpose was satisfied by the use of the item, then I don't deem it a waste, but a cost of living, and investment in my future, and a means to a better life.

But sometimes my plans for stuff didn't work out, so yeah I wasted money.

Such is life. Not everything can be used 100%.

For example, I bought tools to renovate my apartment. When used, their cost was deemed to be part of the cost of the renovation, so I got the tools for free! Then I don't waste them if I chuck them out.

It is one way to reason though it, and this kind of reasoning works for me.

I can identify with buying things because it seemed like a good idea at the time. I am a recovering Hoarder and it is a bit more difficult for me to toss things out ... often I have spent a large amount of money without sufficient forethought. When I have disposed of it at a garage sale, some years later, it is sold for a minute fraction of its cost.

I am not a natural hoarder, but I have bought things that I really didn't need.

I am sure I will use that steamer oven for cooking one of these years though!

Absolutely. I have bought heaps of stuff I didn't really need, especially the last few years.
I still have a colour laser printer sitting unopened in a box, as well as a pressure washer and various tools.
One day I thought I would inspire myself to cook good meals for myself so I bought an expensive kitchen knife, digital scales, some bowls, an apron, etc, etc. The knife's been good; never used the scales, rarely use any of the other junk in my kitchen as I just eat frozen meals heated up in the microwave.
And I have trouble throwing things out, so I am starting to become one of those classic hoarders. help

I'm guilty...been enjoying eBay, got three chain saws, 4 electric jugs, the latter main one i used my generator can't run so brought one that arrived with lug missing so seller replaced with another so got two those both work but lug for lid missing on one, then i worked out both only heat to 96 deg (me departed mother would agree with them, shouldn't use boiling water when making coffee) myself i prefer jugs that boil so brought another one, which makes four...got excellent chainsaw sharpener.

Had three cameras up until yesterday, wonderful array of tools that i'll hopefully never have to use, even a nice shiny new theodolite, currently two laptops (working on installing Ubuntu on one) homeless i even own my own electric fence, plastic bag sealer, two comb binders, two printers (one color laser other ink-jet that prints my give away DVD's, lots and lots of tools...

Hi Kn... wave

Yes, I get mad at myself too, but I have learnt to ask myself now... (not in the past tho.).. do I really really need it...

and no... right at this point in time, I do not have an abundance of money, and being older... hopefully learning to be wiser..sigh

Hi Halvo...wave

I so get it... things bought for a purpose, like your tools, they are not a waste, you can justify that kind of stuff..

so many computers... and back then computers were more clunky and expensive... eeek...

but yes, I have had bought 4 computers in my lifetime, that includes the stupid commonder 64 for the boys many years ago..

and I must admit... that was a waste, because all you could do on it at the time was to play games, and at that point in the boys life, they were not really into games... another wastedoh

Thanks for reminding me... grin

Oh Obsi wave

You might yet get the urge to cook one day... seriously, take up a cooking class perhaps?? and then you might find that you like your kitchen...

anyway, only knives for you then... grin since that is what you need. ( and they come in handy for all sorts of things besides slicing carrot.. )grin

I think you are definitely the thinker here... I bet you don't spend at all on trivial items...

Bugga when the price rises... but I get that.

Yesterday I wrote to one of the removal companies by email... those people that come an collect metal.

I listed the defunct water heater, tons of copper, from a $4k back yard project I did, had the plumber put new water pipes around to where I felt I needed the taps for easy access... within 2 years, I gave that land to my son, and up came the pipes..
I have lengths really long ones of those steel rods that are used for building houses , and an old exercise bike.

anyway, fair bit of stuff, but I also put down , defunct pvc pipes, and the company person wrote back...

WE TAKE metal ONLY... omg. he shouted at me in an email... ?

Jeez, If we shouted at someone in an email at work, we would get the tap on the shoulder..

Should I give this company a miss...?

building recyclers may take your PVC , don't count on getting much for them though . Trade-me operates in Aus , stuff sells on there .

they would certainly like to get there hands on the copper at the right price

defunct pvc probably rubbish or council recycle center

reinforcing me i'd probably offer free for removal, a farmer or someone might use with concrete or something unless you have tons of it

again an idea
