Currently driving by my local high school that has been closed for the last 18 months due to lack of numbers, I noticed today workmen doing some work there about 10.30am. Been many suggestions from the local community for a "selective" sports/education school to be established there by local residents.
On returning around 12.30pm, they had gone and boarded up all of the glass access doors due to vandalism (they have had the one building regularly used by 'others' burnt down due to vandalism).
What I do get incensed about is the "Stimulus Package" signage still being up. They got a lot of Federal Govt "Stimulus Package" money but still got shut down shortly after spending all that money.

Yeah, at the time the GFC hit, the tools ( I mean pollies) thought that wasting all the bucket loads of dollars would keep the country going strong. Blind Freddy could have seen that wasting billions to give a few large companies early retirement, was never going to save Australia from what hit the world. It just delayed it and it is now coming home to roost like a bout of diarrhea after a mega spicy Indian Thai Mexican binge.
Every one of those super expensive halls and libraries they put into every school, could have been built for about a third of the cost.
Schools with dwindling numbers should be closed and consolidated. The costs to upkeep them are astronomical.
Pity about all the vandalism, but that also is the other side of the coin here in Australia, tools in politics, and tools in the community. Both as destructive as the other.
