I am strongly considering early retirement. Continuing in my current job is no longer tenable as I have found myself working longer and longer hours to keep up. I have been working 7 days a week (apart from the occasional day off) for over a year and that is just ridiculous.
I can see it now: sleep in until 9AM; drink coffee and read the papers until lunchtime; make an elaborate lunch and then have a long nap. Ah bliss!

You have just described heaven to me. I work ridiculous hours also. I try to soothe myself with the thought it keeps me out of trouble. Cause goodness knows if I had energy what kind of trouble I could get into uh oh

Today I have had a taste of early retirement as I have to take a couple of days off work due to a minor back injury.
1) couldn't sleep in as I am so used to getting up at 6AM!
2) made a coffee on the espresso machine - it's leaking, but still makes a passable latte.
3) couldn't be bothered going out to buy a paper so just read online news and post on CS.
4) raked some leaves
5) now too tired to make lunch so just have a piece of toast.
6) can't fire up the gas heater after a summer of inactivity so call a service person. Hang around waiting for a call in the freezing cold.
7) figured out that the air conditioner is actually a reverse cycle unit and can do heating as well! All we have to do is decipher the little symbols on the remote.
8) too buzzed up from drinking coffee to take a nap, so maybe..... clean the house? :-(

You'll need an activity you enjoy to pass the time, paint the house, fix the cutters, mow the lawns, paint front fence, clean the concrete, buy a camera so you can take photos of birds, dye your hair grey and carefully contemplate trip around aussie...

just stop working seven days , never had a job where it "did' itself or somebody else did it . You look younger than the average age of pastoral farmers here so I reckon you ought to keep doing what you do if you like the work . And that toast you are eating better get used to it as you might have to live on it and two minute noodles with a bit of roadkill for a Sunday roast .

yeah china gave everything away for free, the best way to stuff the greedy picks, now small business production activity is extremely low, so what did abbot come out with in there budget, borrow, borrow, borrow and any tradesmen or small business that follows there advice will regret sooner than later about the time they loose everything

rates can't get much lower , next thing you know we will be in a credit squeeze with the same folks saying you should not have borrowed so much . Seen it happen when folks follow a governments bidding . These are the times to get out of debt .

Early retirement ... nah, not a good move

1) as you already found out, without structure your day drags and you soon get bored and tired

2) If you have indeed become a workaholic you'll not have much by way of things that interest you ... so y'll be more bored everyday than just this morning

3) It sounds fabulous I know, but when you combine fixed income with the increased cost of 'entertaining yourself' not to mention that boredom is a huge stress on the system and leads to more doctor visits, maybe even a collapse in mental health ...

Thanks Allan, I had already decided the same. Got over my temporary annoyance with work.
