Typically, in Switzerland, everyone greets with a touching of hands (like a limp handshake), and again when saying goodbye. So you get all these hand germs plastered on your hand.

School kids do this with their teachers.

And EVERYONE does this at social functions. The "hello" and the "goodbye" thing.

NOW .. it is VERBOTEN! The teachers stand with their hands folded and no-one must shake hands!

Why? In the interests of not spreading SwineFlu!

A circular came today....: If you have `flu - stay at home and do NOT have any contact with others, until you are able to have ONE complete day without any `flu symptoms.

Fine.

A hundred years ago, when I was younger, I used to ponder why the fanatical obsession with NOT missing school or work because you have `flu ...... obviously everyone spread the `flu around to everyone else!

cheers Helleluja! There has arrived a NEW AWAKENING on planet Earth!!!!!

Howcome the old fashioned ways were always scoffed at ... and now its taken Educated Scientific Doctors to work out "How the spread of `Flu works"...?

One day...... maybe ..... it will be found that eating stuff produced in factories that comes out of packets/tins/boxes is causing things like Cancer, Hyperactivity, Diabetes, MD, ME, and other popular "diseases"...?

Tis truly amazing isn`t it?

The only irritating thing is that one is then looked on as a real strange being!

People don`t seem to mind pouring poisons down their throats, spraying their skin with it - but come out with something completely natural and they look with horror at this *strange* substance!

And it`s "educated" people too who seem the most stupid?

We got a teacher friend who feeds her son Energy Drinks - sometimes 2 a day, while he eats his Instant Microwaved food! and then fusses because he has to take his pills to contain his "disease" of ADH or whatever that Hyperactivity/No concentration thing is that all the junk food/coke drinking kids have these days.......dunno rolling on the floor laughing

What's with this place called 'Burnley'?

Is it like Mecca in Saudi Arabia?

Do people huddle together and walk 36 times round a goalpost and then do naughty things to the referee?

Please explain! thumbs up

smoky - remember you treating that wound on my leg?

It was a sandfly bite that kills dogs if they get infected.

It only took 18 months to heal; if I'd gone straight to the hospital it would have healed in just a few weeks!

I'll have a scar there for life now - I call it 'smoky's love bite'

thumbs up thumbs up

One of the main reasons for tensions in my ex marriage was the logger heading that went on with my ex about what went in the childrens mouth and the frustration of knowing that futher down the track it would be proven correct.

Just round the corner of my house in NL is a huge cherry tree. In June it's full of cherries. NOBODY touches them as they might be poisonous. I asked and that was the answer. They saw me in the tree, pluking cherries and eating them. Loads of them. Every year. They still think that cherries are not to be trusted. Only things bought in the supermarket are to be trusted.

In B, in the garden of the house I rented last year was a "wild cherry tree". We were advised by the owners not to eat the cherries as they were poisonous!!! That cherries are not that big and are a bit bitter, delicious! We made some jam last year and it was yum-my! We ate also a lot and are still alive.

Not long ago I saw a neighbour bought black berries from the supermarket. The funny thing is that behind his garten there are tons of black berries and now they are so sweet and savorous. We plucked already kilos of them. We ate a lot, we made jam and now I have 3 liters of black barry liqueur in making. And he buys black berries!!!

And I can give you hundreds of other examples.

On the other side, the Belgians still shake hands and kiss when they meet or part

A handshake is an old custom that came from the fact when we carried swords.
The reachin out of an empty hand was a confirmation you didnt draw swords on your opposite so he knew you had friendly itentions.

Just a side note

Actually, as a sign of not wearing any concealed weapons.

Another version of the origin of the handshake originates in the Middle East. Two arabs meet in the desert. They reach for the each others hand to kiss it in greeting. But, as it is an insult to have your hand kissed by another male, both men tried to withdraw their hand from the lips of the other man. The result of this meeting is the acceptance by both men that they wouldn't kiss the others hand and thus they ended up only clasping their hands. And so the handshake was born.

Here in Greece there are still lots of people who go just into the countryside and cut greens from wherever they grow, and they are among the most healthy people. But you might find lots of fig trees full of fruits which nobody will collect, not because they might be poisoned but because they are"better" when you pay lots of money to buy them in the super market.People don't shake much hands here anyway, maybe its too hot and hands are sweating so no change in that. But they still kiss a lot, no change there either.

Ja, when we would this house, I noticed a little shrub with "apple" like fruit and the owner said they are poisonous..... I am still wondering about it? It gets beautiful pink flowers in springtime - and the fruit is tiny and hard....?
